It’s worth noting, whichever laptop you choose, it must pair the right processer along with a discrete graphics card and it must have enough RAM for Warzone to run smoothly. And, my HP Omen 15 has that in abundance which makes it one of the best affordable laptops for Call of Duty Warzone.

1. HP Omen 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop with Ryzen 7 4800H

Specifications – Processor: Ryzen 7 4800H, MB: 4.5 GHz; Display size: 15.6in; RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200 GHz; Display resolution: 1920 x 1080px; GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB GDDR6; Storage: 512 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD; Weight: 2.37kg; Operating System: Windows 10 Home;

The Omen 15 is available with either an INTEL 10th Gen CPU or the impressive AMD Ryzen 7 4800H processor and a ray-tracing RTX NVIDIA mobile discrete graphics card. Which is a decent hardware combination to make the HP Omen one of the best Call of Duty Warzone laptops.

The main reason why the HP Omen 15 takes the top spot on my list is because I know first hand its gaming performance capabilities and what this gaming machine can offer.

If you want to know more you can read the full HP Omen 15 review outlining just how good the laptop is for gaming, not to mention, a superb gaming laptop for graphics and video editing.

Why the Omen 15 is a Superb Mid-range Laptop for Warzone?

This Omen gaming laptop is equipped with an anti-glare micro-edge panel and has excellent viewing angles, also bright and accurate colours. The FHD IPS panel offers a 144 Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution for smooth, crisp gameplay. Although, gaming at 2440p ain’t too bad either.

Furthermore, the build quality is decent, with a solid aluminium frame surrounding the keyboard. Noticeably, the chassis is smooth and clean, with a tidy diamond Omen logo on the lid. Unlike some gaming laptops, there is nothing too over the top.

The keyboard itself is well-thought-out, but there is no number pad or fingerprint reader. There is, however, plenty of space allocated to rest your palms when typing and, the HP Omen has a highly responsive and well-positioned trackpad. And if you are a mouse and keyboard kind of gamer, without a doubt, you will benefit from utilizing the 26-key anti-ghosting technology that covers nearly half of the keys on the keyboard, therefore, giving you an advantage in the game. Finally, the keys are snappy and fast, and they have been a joy to click with a virtually invisible actuate distance.

What stands out when gaming on the HP Omen 15 was just how much I could do simultaneously, and a big thanks must go to the impressive power of the AMD Ryzen 4000 series CPU. Unbelievably, I was able to jump from app to app, read an email and edit an image, all at the same time as checking the system vitals using the Omen gaming hub software. Not to mention, Call of Duty Warzone running in the background.

HP Omen Verdict

The HP Omen 15 paired with the Ryzen 7 4800H and an Nvidia RTX 2060 GPU is a fine specification for delivering smooth mainstream gaming to you on a plate. The Omen laptop is quick to start, unbelievably, even quicker to charge and comes with an excellent 144Hz display to make your portable gaming look crisp and clean. Additionally, you can upgrade the RAM and the storage to increase performance even further. Overall, it’s a beast of a laptop for the price and gets a 5-star from me.

2. Acer Nitro 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop

Specifications – Processor: Intel i7-11800H, MB: 4.6 GHz; Display size: 17in, 144 Hz refresh rate; RAM: 16GB DDR4; Display resolution: 1920 x 1080px; GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050-Ti 4 GB GDDR6; Storage: 1 TB NVMe PCIe SSD; Weight: 2.74kg; Operating System: Windows 10 Home;

The Acer Nitro laptop ranges are popular budget to mid-range gaming machines and this 17 inch laptop deserves a spot on the list of the best affordable Call of Duty Warzone laptops in early 2021.

Simply because Acer paired this model with the new budget Nvidia RTX 3050-Ti GPU which has 2560 CUDA cores and 4 GB of VRAM, and together with a powerful companion, the fast Intel Core i7 11th Gen eight-core processor that runs at 2.6 GHz with a possible turbo peak at 4.6 GHz with hyper-threading and has a 24 MB Smart L3 Cache will get you 60fps with high settings and 80+ on medium/low.

There is also 16 GB of dual-channel memory upgradable to 32GB and a large amount of storage. And, COD Warzone will surely utilize that. Furthermore, the Acer Nitro has an impressive 144Hz FHD IPS 15.6-inch display, the same as the HP Omen laptop above and will make this laptop perfect for gaming at 1080p.

Even though this GPU lags behind all the other Nvidia RTX 30 series cards there is still enough power to run Warzone. However, using the best Warzone settings will improve this gaming machine further.

Although, the performance would depend on the TGP (Thermal Design Power) setting and the cooling of the laptop. However, if Acer’s cool boost technology is as good as some say, it should help spread the heat. So the system is kept responsive and cool during intense Warzone gameplay.

For the record, there haven’t been many complaints regarding heat issues, only that you would benefit from using a laptop cooling pad. If only to give you a more comfortable position for gaming.

Design, Ports and Features

On the design, the Acer Nitro 5 looks pleasing but due to its affordability, there is not much to really shout about. The chassis combines plastic with a metal frame, and the finish is simple, which is mostly black.

On the sides, there are a plethora of ports including the newest USB 3.2 standard with Gen1 and 2 support, high-speed HDMI 2.0, and the other usual suspects to give you ultra-fast transfer speeds. Along with, WiFi-6 which is the fastest available on portable devices.

The cooling isn’t too bad either, featuring Acer’s very own cool boost tech with twin fans and a quad exhaust port design. Which will increase the fan speed by as much as 10% and reduce operating temperatures by up to 9% when under heavy load.

Finally, the Acer Nitro’s 4-zone RGB keyboard comes with a number pad and a dedicated Nitro-Sense key, giving you quick access to your system vitals software. The keys are soft, with a 1.6 mm travel distance and the WASD and arrow keys are highlighted for easy visibility.

  • USB 3.2 Gen 1
  • USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
  • HDMI 2.1 (Ultra Fast)
  • Mini Display Port
  • SD media card reader
  • NO HDD
  • 80% Screen to body ratio
  • Nitro Sense Key
  • DTS X Ultra Audio
  • 4-zone RGB backlit keyboard
  • WiFi-6, Bluetooth 2.0
  • NO Fingerprint reader

Acer Nitro 5 Verdict

Overall the Acer Nitro 5 laptop is a decent budget high-fidelity gaming laptop, it offers plenty of ways to improve the RAM (32GB RAM) and the storage. The battery power is ok, not the best, but, three to four hours of gameplay is possible. The Nvidia RTX GPU will offer Ray-Tracing and DLSS to help boost performance further. But best of all is its price, which gives this Acer Nitro model a thumbs up from me.

3. Lenovo Legion 5 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop

Specifications – Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5800H , MB: 4.4 GHz; Display size: 15in, 144 Hz Panel; RAM: 16GB DDR4; Display resolution: 1920 x 1080px; GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050Ti 4 GB GDDR6; Storage: 512GB NVMe SSD; Weight: 2.39kg; Operating System: Windows 10 Home;

The Lenovo Legion 5 is one of the best mid-range Call of Duty Warzone laptops. This one is paired with the new AMD Ryzen 7 5800H Processor that combines eight cores with sixteen threads, that clocks between 3.2Ghz and max peak around 4.4GHz with a total 16GB L3 Cache and also supports SMT / Hyperthreading.

They have paired that with a budget friendly ray-tracing Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti 4GB GPU. Which has ensured this laptop is placed in the lower mid-range gaming laptop bracket. The components are concluded by 16GB DDR4 SDRAM and 512GB NVMe SSD, therefore, it will run Warzone without a problem.

However, Warzone does have high VRAM requirements and with the RTX3050 Ti only having 4GB you will have to reduce the in-game settings to enjoy respectable frame rates. That said, the RTX 3050Ti will offer decent gaming performance at 1080p on medium to high settings.

Design, Ports and Features

On the design, the Lenovo Legion doesn’t really push the envelope, but it looks nice and simple with a sleek design. The ports are littered across the back of the chassis. The hinge design is nice, as they’re not flat against the edge like other laptops and ensures the Legion looks how a gaming machine should look.

Other than that, the vents are big, stretching across the base, and the two exhausts on sides will allow for plenty of airflow. Meanwhile, the air vents are supported by dual-channel thermal mechanisms and Q Control 3.0, giving you complete control over your core temperatures and system settings.

Also, the AMD Lenovo Legion 5 boasts an auto-optimize mode and will optimize the laptop in certain games. So, for games that are dependent on the performance of the GPU or the CPU, the Legion 5 will detect that and then will distribute power where it is needed, which will ensure maximum frame rates.

Furthermore, the keyboard does have a number pad and has dedicated media keys. The soft-landing switches have a 15mm key travel, although the arrow keys may be an obstacle, I am sure you will get over it. On the downside, there is no fingerprint reader for added security.

Finally, the display is a 15″ FHD widescreen display engineered for the graphical pyrotechnics with a 100% sRGB colour accuracy, and it boasts refresh rates of 165Hz with a 3ms response time.

  • USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C
  • USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
  • Display Port 1.4
  • Mic / headphone combo
  • RJ45 ethernet / HDMI 2.0
  • Intel Wi-Fi 6
  • Q Control 3.0 and Dual Burn
  • Coldfront 4.0 Cooling System
  • NO Fingerprint reader
  • NVIDIA GeForce Record Gameplay
  • 165Hz FHD Display

What is Call of Duty Warzone Cold War?

Call of Duty Warzone is a free to play Battle Royale, released some time in 2020. One of the main benefits to playing Warzone is it offers cross-platform play, which means you can hook up with your friends on Xbox, PlayStation, or PC, including laptops, and join in and play in the same game. Although, this has been questioned many times over, as it’s (cross platform) not to popular across the gaming community.

Anyway, in Warzone there are as many as three different games modes, Battle Royale, Plunder, and Rebirth, which is by far my favourite game mode. Plunder and Battle Royale use the Verdansk map. Whereas Rebirth is played out on Vozrozhdeniya island.

If you didn’t already know, Vozrozhdeniya island is the location of the “Rebirth Mission” made famous in Black Ops and back in the Cold War, this was the location of Russia’s Bioweapons.

Exciting stuff.

That said, game developers do sometimes slip one or two other game modes into Warzone now and again, but those three are the main game modes.

Warzone Battle Royale Mode Tips

In the Battle Royale mode, you can either be a solo soldier and take on 149 other Call of Duty Warzone players. Or,  join up with other team members to fight it out in duos, trios, or squads. But the aim of the game in either of those modes is the last team alive wins.

Warzone is quite simple to understand, you jump out of the plane and your goal is to land as soon as you possibly can. Grab your ground loot and get yourself as much money as possible so you can buy your way to victory.

You need to find at least $10,000 as quickly as possible so you can purchase your loadout which consists of ten different gun setups. It is always a good idea to grab a UAV at the same time so when you activate it you are aware of where the nearest players are before you release your loadout drop.

There have been many times where I have run around like a blue arsed fly looking for money to buy my loadout. And I’ve been watched by another player waiting for me to drop it and am sitting there selecting my guns. At which point you are an easy target. However, if you are aware of your surroundings this is less likely to happen.

In game you need to be stealth, quick, and like I said, be aware of your surroundings at all times. You just never know where there might be a sniper or camper lying in wait. And, Warzone is a camper’s paradise. Believe me.

Another thing to note, both Warzone solos and Warzone duos can be highly stressful and very sweaty, so you need to be on your toes at all times. I have around 50 solo wins which is not bad considering I only play a couple of hours every other day.

Warzone Plunder Mode

In Warzone Plunder mode, your goals are slightly different, where your main goal is to collect as much money as possible. The first team to collect $1million are the winners.

Plunder game mode is superb for helping to level up your weapons and for practising your aim, also getting used to the Verdansk map. Other than that, you need to loot box’s just like you would playing Battle Royale, and you can also earn money quicker by completing contracts. i.e. recons, bounties, and scavengers.

Warzone Rebirth Island

Rebirth Island first came to Warzone when they released Call of Duty Cold War. To be honest, Rebirth Island is by far my go-to game mode. It’s fast, furious, highly frustrating, and extremely exciting.

Currently, Rebirth is with squads, but they have previously had trios and duos. Similar to Battle Royale, you jump out of the plane, loot, buy your loadout and hunt down the other teams to win.

In my opinion, it is best to work as a team, although you may find when you play with random players it can be difficult. Especially if they don’t have mic’s.

The best strategy for Warzone Rebirth, is definitely to hunt down other teams as fast as possible. And try to take the high ground for the best chance to win. Moreover, camping or even holding an area does work, but it’s not always a good idea. Well, that’s my opinion anyway.

Call of Duty Warzone Cold War

Call of Duty Cold War is a different game mode altogether than Warzone. It consists of three modes, zombie mode, multiplayer, and campaign mode.

The Zombie mode is great fun to play and will give you many hours of intense and scary game play. However, for anyone new to FPS games, multiplayer mode is so difficult. This mode is just as sweaty if not more sweaty than playing solos in Verdansk.

For me, campaign mode is by far the best game mode in Call of Duty Cold War, this is the story mode. In which it takes you back in time to the Cold War era. Back through the battle of the 1980s, featuring the KGB. You visit places across Europe, Asia, and Russia and batte enemies along the way and complete different missions. During this time you are asked questions, and each answer you give will determine which route you take. This I think is the best part because the game has different endings.

Is buying Call of Duty Cold War worth it?

From my experience on Xbox, Yes, it is. I first purchased Cold war for my son to play on his Xbox. He has had so much fun going through campaign mode about five or six times. He also plays the other game modes although he plays against bots because he finds it too difficult to play with players live.

However, when Call of Duty Cold War first came out, I did spend a few days playing the game myself, just to see what all the fuss was about. Since then, I haven’t really played that much and I can only put that down to how good, and enjoyable it is to play Call of Duty Warzone.

Even after six months my son still only plays against bots and on the campaign mode. So for that reason, it has been a good buy but not the best. However, if skill based matchmaking actually exists then it would possibly make this game one of the best first person shooter games. It’s just too dam sweaty..

System Requirements: Gaming Laptops for Call of Duty Warzone

Every computer game title will have minimum and recommended system requirements to enable the game to run smoothly. They are there to guide and give you every opportunity to enjoy the best gaming performance.

Which is why I will always advise purchasing a gaming machine that will meet the recommended system requirements, if not above. Especially important for a game such as Call of Duty Warzone. And for that reason, I have ensured each gaming laptop listed above will meet these requirements. If not above.

But, I know it’s not always possible to purchase a high spec gaming machine, simply because you don’t have the budget. Or there could be many other reasons why you cannot find a laptop to meet the Call of Duty Warzone recommended system requirements.

Not to worry, each game will have minimum system requirements and a laptop for Warzone that meets these would still be ok and would run the game fine. Ok, you may not be busting out 150fps, but that’s ok. If you can at least surpass 60fps that’s still playable.

Therefore, a decent gaming laptop with a capable CPU that has 4 cores with 8 threads, along with a discrete GPU, ideally, a GTX 16 series or above. Paired with enough RAM and storage would still give you an enjoyable gaming experience.

Minimum System Requirements: Call of Duty Warzone Laptops?

A decent Call of Duty Warzone laptop at the very least would need an Intel i5 8th Gen 4 core CPU or the equivalent AMD mobile processor. However, from what I can see, it’s not easy to find a decent laptop paired with an 8th Gen processor. And, you will also need a discrete graphics card, the problem is, there aren’t many 8th Gen Intel machines paired with the required graphics card. Which also has at least 8 GB RAM.

Therefore, a gaming laptop with an Intel i5 10th Gen processor would be a better option, and this gaming machine would give you more chance to get nearer, or even above the minimum system requirements for Call of Duty Warzone.

Or, if you prefer AMD, the earliest AMD CPU to run Call of Duty Warzone would be a Ryzen 3 3rd Gen processor. But, starting from the Ryzen 3 3250U. Again, you would struggle to find the complete machine.

Unfortunately, it is much easier to meet the minimum spec for a PC due to being a lot more powerful at the lower end of the spectrum. As an example, all that is required is an Intel i3 4th generation CPU, paired with a GTX 670 mobile graphics card.

But don’t worry, there is hope.

How to check your laptop specification for DirectX?

Apart from a decent processor and a discrete GPU, you also need 8 GB RAM, ideally, an SSD. And running on Windows 7, but Windows 10 would be much better.

In addition, your gaming machine needs to be DirectX 12 compatible. If you are not sure if your laptop is DirectX 12 compatible, read on as I will show you how to check.

What is DirectX 12?

DirectX is a collection of APIs, better known as application programming interfaces, linked to your operating system. DirectX 12 helps with handling tasks related to your games, multimedia and video.

And the latest version of DirectX 12 came about when Microsoft released Windows 10 back in 2014. DirectX 12 allows developers such as NVIDIA and AMD to add additional graphic effects more efficiently to your laptops and PCs and reduces driver overhead at the same time.

To run the Call of Duty Warzone game title smoothly it is a requirement for your gaming laptop to be DirectX-12 compatible. Unfortunately, if you have the wrong version of Microsofts DirectX the game you want to play may not run on your system how it should.

That said, checking your laptop for compatibility is straight forward, please follow the step below;

  1. Select START and search RUN, click ENTER
  2. In the run, box type dxdiag, then click enter
  3. The DirectX diagnostic tool sheet should appear
  4. Select the SYSTEM tab at the bottom of the list, and you should see your version of DirectX

If the latest version of Windows is already installed, then you should have the latest DirectX version.

But, if you are unsure, you can run Windows Update. However, if you are running an older version or a different version of Windows, you may have issues installing the latest version of DirectX.

So my advice would be to upgrade your system to the latest version of Windows 10 and all will be good.

My Recommended Minimum System Requirements: Call of Duty Warzone laptops

Below, I have compiled a list of three budget Call of Duty Warzone laptops that will meet the minimum system requirements. Each one has the required minimum GPU, RAM and storage to run COD Warzone.

But, not necessarily required, like I have said before, it would be nice!

What you do need is a gaming laptop to run at least 60fps, if not above. Below you will find the recommended system requirements to run Call of Duty Warzone on your portable device.

Frequently Asked Warzone Questions

1. Can you play Warzone on a laptop?

Yes, there are plenty of laptops for Warzone that will run the game just fine, and there is no need to pump thousands into buying the best gaming laptop there is. Just as long as it has the hardware to meet Warzone’s minimum system requirements.

The gaming laptops above will all run Call of Duty Warzone without much fuss. Ok, they don’t have fearsome components like you would get with the latest Dell Alienware gaming machines. But they do have enough in the tank to sit somewhere between the minimum and the recommended hardware requirements.

As an example, my current gaming machine is the impressive mid-range 2020 HP Omen. It pairs an Nvidia RTX2060 and AMD Ryzen 7 4800H 8 Core processor with which I enjoy 130fps during my Warzone gameplay. This laptop didn’t break the bank, nor did I go into debt to buy it.

So it goes to show a mid-range laptop is more than enough to run Call of Duty Warzone. Also, the other three budget laptops listed above will run Warzone just fine. You would only have to tone the in-game graphics settings down to enjoy a decent gaming performance.

Finally, as long as the laptop has 8GB RAM, (16GB would be perfect), a discrete GPU with 4 GB VRAM and a mobile processor with 4 cores and 8 threads. Along with enough storage, you will be laughing all the way to your first Warzone win.

What are the best settings for Warzone?

The best settings for Warzone would help improve your Warzone gameplay and your laptops performance. But they will be different from the best Warzone PC settings.

So, if you are looking for the best Warzone laptop settings, I can help as I recently wrote an article outlining the Warzone settings I use, and they serve me well.

Although, there are some settings that will be different on your machine, as it depends on your hardware. But it’s worth testing to see what works best.

That said, some will be the same across the board. Like, ensuring your drivers are up to date and especially your Nvidia graphics card drivers. And don’t forget you also need to ensure Nvidia’s GeForce experience drivers are up to date. Highly important for recording your gameplay.

Another setting worth enabling is Windows game mode which can improve your laptops gaming performance. However, it may not, so it’s worth enabling this and testing it and then disabling and then testing it again to see what works best.

For those using an Nvidia GPU, the control panel settings can also be adjusted to better suit Warzone. You can either do this globally or change the settings specifically for the game.

Like, I said I have written an in-depth guide, and it’s worth checking it out if you are serious about improving your laptop for Warzone.

How long does it take to download Warzone?

Call of Duty Warzone is an incredibly large game, I mean you need at least 175 GB of laptop storage space available just for the game files. And, then it would depend on the speed of your internet so unless we know your internet speed it is hard to put an actual number on this.

However, just to put it into perspective, if your download speed was say 50 Mb/s it would take somewhere in the region of 8 or 9 hours to download the full game of Call of Duty Warzone.

But when the average download speed is around 15 Mb/s it will take double that time. From my experience with downloading Warzone, it actually took around 18 hours to download Warzone including the Cold War files as well onto my Xbox One.

Whereas the time was halved when I downloaded Warzone onto my gaming laptop, it took around nine hours to download and install the full game.

Just make sure to plug your device weather that’s a laptop or console directly into your internet via the ethernet cable. This way you will get the best possible internet download speed.

Final Thoughts…

The gaming laptops listed above are some of the more affordable mid-range machines around. And they are decent in many more areas than the price. Equipped with enough graphics and processing ability for the latest mainstream games and especially Call of Duty Warzone.

If you are looking for a laptop to take advantage of ray-tracing in Warzone or NVIDIAs newest DLSS AI technology you would need a laptop with an RTX graphics card. Just for the record, since enabling DLSS, my laptops performance during my Warzone gameplay has skyrocketed. In that case, the five laptops listed at the top of this page would offer the best mid-range gaming performance.

Whereas if you are not to fussed, and just want a laptop to run Warzone, then the other three budget machines listed above would be just fine.
