What’s the Best Keyboard for Gaming for Cheap?

Best Keyboard for Gaming for Cheap

From experience, the best keyboard for gaming for cheap is the Logitech G213 gaming keyboard listed above. It has many features, and the kind of features a more expensive keyboard would offer.

Although, it’s one of the bigger external gaming keyboards you can get for this price point, and remarkably similar to the old classic computer keyboards. It has a separate number pad with a lock key and four media keys, in addition, to having dedicated F keys and cursor keys.

It also features F Mech-Dome keys that are clicky and surprisingly nice to type on, and seem impressible responsive. The keys have a 4mm travel distance and a 50g actuation force. So should withstand many gaming battles, and so far so good.

What is also impressive with this keyboard is the colour customization options. It has five individual lighting zones that are easily customized using the G HUB software. Where you can set your lighting and game profiles with just a few clicks.

The Logitech G213 wired gaming keyboard is not for everyone because the keys may be a little too noisy for some. But nothing a decent headset wouldn’t hide. And they haven’t been much of an issues for me.

In my opinion, the G213 keyboard is a decent and simple looking that feels solidly made and has plenty of features. Also, I have found it easy to type with and even easier to customize. Every key you would need is there, so there are no worries about secondary keys.

Making this a superb gaming keyboard for beginners and by far the best cheap keyboard for gaming for under £50 and perfect to use with a laptop. Although, there are smaller and more compact keyboards listed above for under £50.

Are Cheap Gaming Keyboards Worth It?

Buying a cheap gaming keyboard would be worth it if it had a decent array of features. But, with a gaming keyboard for under £50, you’re not gonna find one featuring the latest Cherry MX switches. Or the very latest in mechanical keyboard technology.

However, what you will find is some very good keyboards under £50 with additional features that will improve your gameplay. Like with the Razer V2 Cynosa gaming keyboard above that features a 10 key roll-over.

Which means, if you accidentally press two keys together, both key presses will be registered. And this will give you a slight in-game advantage because there will be less chance of you missing your shots.

Whereas, with a more expensive gaming keyboard or even with a gaming laptop keyboard, like my HP Omen. They will have many more keys featuring this technology.

My Omen laptop has no less than 26 keys that rollover, also featuring anti-ghosting technology. Which is designed to prevent you from pressing more keys than intended, again improving your gameplay.

Other than the key-roll over feature, there are many other reasons why cheap gaming keyboards are worth it.

Some will offer a decent array of extra buttons, the kind of buttons you will find on a more expensive option. Like with the Corsair gaming keyboard above. It features dedicated volume and multimedia buttons. Allowing you direct control over your audio without you having to pause your game.

It also comes with onboard dynamic and static lighting modes so you can customize the keyboard to your heart’s content. And these two features alone make it one of the better cheap gaming keyboards for under £50.

Even though the other cheap gaming keyboards listed above are ok, but for a full-on professional gamer with a high-end spec PC. A don’t think a cheap keyboard would take you very far and they may not give you the response rate you need to compete at the very top.

But they will make excellent 2nd keyboards to use with your laptop and well worth a punt in my book, and they are great for beginners.

Why the Logitech G213 Keyboard is Worth it?

Six weeks ago, I purchased the Logitech G213 gaming keyboard for under £60. And the reason for this purchase was because I use my gaming laptop for both gaming and work. As you could imagine, my laptop keys take a hammering.

My laptop literally cost me an arm and a leg, and it needs to be functioning for the next couple of years at the very least. And, I wasn’t prepared to let the hammering continue nor was I prepared to quit Call of Duty Warzone my favourite game title.

I thought an external keyboard would be the answer, and I wasn’t wrong.

The Logitech G213 gaming keyboard has been a joy, and not only does it take the strain away from my laptop keys. It also allows me to move back away from my screen. And it types really well, and I have yet to experience any issues.

A solid and well built keyboard with a membrane and keyframe design, although, the keys are a little noisy when typing. But, I don’t mind that. Besides, when I have my headset on, the clicking doesn’t bother me it just becomes a distant memory.

The keyboard also has a two-level angle adjustment so it can be positioned perfectly next to my laptop when the cooling pad is in use. And it also makes it easier to type fast.

Just like with all five gaming keyboards for under £50 listed above, it features dedicated media controls which I find myself using more and more each day. And I also use the Logitech G HUB software to customize the RGB lighting on the keyboard.

Overall, purchasing the Logitech G213 gaming keyboard for under £50 has made me realize that you don’t need to go into debt to find a decent keyboard for gaming. This keyboard is definitely worth it, and you will know when you have found the right one.

Why you should use a wired keyboard for gaming?

Wired keyboards are the best option when it comes to gaming. Unlike wireless keyboards, they won’t lose connection. Nor will they run out of batteries mid-game.

Tests have shown a decent wired keyboard will be slightly more responsive than the equivalent wireless keyboard.

Although the differences may be too small to notice, there is a difference all the same. And gaming is all about winning, so tiny fractions will matter and could be the difference between finishing 1st or a lonely 2nd place.

And because wired keyboards are plugged directly into your laptop (power source), you won’t have to worry as much about lag. But, if you are willing to spend your budget, and more, on one of the best wireless gaming keyboards, then input lag should be non-existent. Well, Almost.

The only downside of using a wired keyboard as appose to a wireless option is it will take up one of your USB slots. And you will also have to cope with an additional wire cluttering up your gaming setup.

And for some, an additional wire may be too much to handle, especially for those who love a neat and tidy desk and suffering a little OCD.

That said, a wireless keyboard will also hog one or your ports when used with a USB receiver, unless your wireless keyboard has Bluetooth capabilities. Again, like wireless keyboards, Bluetooth keyboards can also suffer from the same issues.

And there is also the cost difference. For a high-end wireless gaming keyboard, you could be looking at prices ranging upwards of £100. Whereas a decent wired gaming keyboard would cost much less.

And you will find many superb wired gaming keyboards for under £50 and some of the best wired gaming keyboards under £100.

Main Issues with Wireless Keyboards

  • A faulty transceiver can cause a wireless keyboard to fail
  • Bad transmission or reception of the wireless signal
  • Issues with battery life, may cause temporary failure

Main Issues with Wired Keyboards

  • The port the device is plugged into could be faulty
  • The configuration in the control panel could be incorrect
  • Your keyboard drivers could be outdated

Are Laptop Keyboards Good For Gaming?

There is nothing wrong with using your laptop keyboard for gaming. It should have all the keys that most external wired or wireless gaming keyboards have. But the downside is over time, your laptop keys will deteriorate.

Just imagine how many keystrokes you carry out in one gaming session or even just drafting a simple email will use 100+ keystrokes.

Or, how many times have you been sniped from the air? And out of frustration, you have slammed your keys a little too hard.

Especially when you are in the heat of the battle, and without realizing it, you continue to press the WASD keys and the space bar like a crazy madman. I would guess there are many times, I know I have.

Next time you play, count how many times you press down the keys. I hazard a guess, you will lose count, as I did.

So you know, I was in the exact same position until I purchased an external keyboard and now I hardly ever use my laptop keys. The only time I do is to power up the laptop and shut the laptop down.

Why You Must Use An External Keyboard With Your Laptop?

There are many benefits to using an external keyboard with your gaming laptop.

The most important one is that it will help prolong its life and it won’t suffer the wear and tear of daily use, with typing and gaming.

Also, there will be less chance of you spilling a drink on your machine. Don’t forget underneath the keys are your components, your CPU and GPU, and any spillage could have dire consequences for you, your laptop, and your gaming.

Especially if you own an expensive gaming machine, an external keyboard is a must. Using one will not affect performance. Although, a wired option would be best and you will get better value for money as opposed to buying a wireless keyboard.

Purchasing a good wired keyboard to use with your laptop will not break the bank. You will find a treasure trove of keyboards for under £50 that will help improve your gaming.

Besides, using an external keyboard will also allow you to go a little crazy and not have to worry too much about slamming down those laptop keys and your gaming will improve.

Not only that, but you will also spend less time stressing about hurting your pride and joy and more time concentrating on finding and destroying your enemies.

If you work or type loads with your laptop, as I do, an external keyboard will give you more space between you and your display. So protecting your eyes and your back in the process.

And, will also allow you more freedom to spread out over your desk. You could even sit back on your bed and still draft an email, or even play a less demanding game.

Everyone wins, I know my laptop experience has improved since adding an external keyboard to my gaming laptop accessories.

Final Thoughts..

If you have managed to find your next gaming laptop accessory, great. If not, you should leave my website with a better understanding of what budget keyboards to expect at this price point.

Although, there are many other decent keyboards for under £50, like the Redragon K552 60% Mechanical Gaming Keyboard . Which has more than enough features to be classed as one of the best gaming keyboards for its price range.

So, just to recap, from experience, the Logitech G213 Prodigy Gaming Keyboard  would be the best keyboard with mechanical like keys. And the Corsair K55 RGB Membrane Keyboard  for it’s huge array of features and both keyboards are well worth a punt.

They would make excellent additional accessories that will help prolong the life of your laptop and will also improve your gaming. I know mine did when I bought mine.
