ASUS are producing a superb range of gaming laptops under £1000. The first one is almost identical laptop to my recent purchase, the HP Omen 15 . It pairs the same speedy Ryzen 4800H processor and an impressive Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics card.

And, I can vouch for the fact that together they make a superb hardware combination that will deliver an excellent gaming performance on medium to high settings.

The second laptop pairs an RTX 3060 together with an 11th Gen Intel CPU, again it is an amazing price for this level of hardware. Ok, it may be the weakest RTX 3060 variant but you will still experience Nvidia Ray-tracing with crystal clear reflections and lifelike shadows in games and for less than £1000.

The only real difference between the ASUS and my Omen 15 gaming laptop besides the price is that the ASUS laptops only have 8 GB RAM. Whereas the Omen comes with 16 GB RAM, the sweet spot for gaming. But, you can upgrade the RAM on both ASUS machines, so its not all that bad considering.

My pick for the best budget gaming laptop under £1000 is the HP Pavilion that pairs a decent GTX 1650 Graphics card with the Ryzen 4600H AMD mobile processor. And paired together they make a capable mid-range gaming laptop that will run your favourite games at 1080p resolution.

Albeit on medium settings. Furthermore, the Ryzen 4600H offers a decent overall performance with clock speeds between 3.0GHz to 4GHz. But it’s not as fast as the newer Ryzen 4000 chip above.

That said, this HP Pavilion laptop is a snip, at less than £700 and would make an excellent entry-level gaming laptop. If you were to upgrade the RAM to 16GB, then without a doubt you have yourself a little beauty and a great gaming machine for this price point.

MSI 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop: BUY NOW AMAZON

MSI GF63 Gaming Laptop

Specifications – Processor: Intel i7-10300H 10th GEN, MB: 5.0 GHz; Display size: 15.6in 144HZ IPS; RAM: 8GB DDR4 2666Mhz; Display resolution: 1920 x 1080px; GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650Ti 6 GB GDDR6; Storage: 256GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD; Weight: 1.86kg; Operating System: Windows 10 Home;

This MSI laptop is one the best gaming laptops under £100, and by far the best gaming laptop under £800. It is a superb budget gaming machine and there are various specs available.

And this model is powered by an Intel i5 10300H six core mobile processor, that runs at 2.4GHz with a max clock speed of 4.5GHz. Not the latest or the best but for this price point it’s decent.

But, the fact it compares well against other Intel laptop processors, the MSI gaming laptop is worth a punt in my book. Just check out the image below, it compares 5 mid-range laptop processors and clearly, you can see why the MSI gaming laptop is worth considering.

Cinebench score the MSI Gaming laptop Under £1000

MSI has paired the Intel processor with a decent NVIDIA GTX 1650-Ti graphics card, and this will ensure you can run the latest modern games on relatively decent settings. But, it’s not the latest from NVIDIA.

Why consider the MSI GTX 1650-Ti Gaming Laptop Under £1000?

The laptop weighs a tad over 1.86KG and just under 21mm thick with a sleek well made chassis, with an aluminium hair-brushed finish. The neat looking X-shaped ventilation hidden underneath will allow for plenty of airflow, therefore, ensuring your laptop stays cool.

Furthermore, the display is a 144Hz Full HD LED and will give you a decent picture and a blur-free and smooth gameplay, from all angles.

The spec is concluded by 8GB DDR IV RAM, although possibly 2 x 4GB, as opposed to 1 x 8GB. However, this means there are two slots, so upgrading is possible, and that is only if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty. Upgradable to 64 GB RAM.

Unlike the Dell G3, there is no Thunderbolt 3 port, thou not the end of the world. But there is an HDMI 2.0, RJ-45 ethernet, USB Type-C Gen 1, 3 USB ports in total, therefore, more than enough to keep your peripherals happy.

Finally, the storage offered is 256GB M.2 PCIe SSD so not the biggest and it definitely will not be long until you need to be thinking about adding more, alternatively, purchasing an external storage device. And the battery isn’t half bad either, to give you around 3-5-hours battery life when playing on balanced mode.

MSI Gaming Laptop Verdict

Overall, a must-have mid-range gaming laptop, with the only downfall not having ultra-fast ports. But for this price point and the addition of MSI’s dragon centre 2.0 software and of course, for under £800, the MSI gaming laptop gets a thumbs up from me.

2. Best Gaming Laptop Under £1000 with RTX 2060: ASUS Tuf 15.6-inch

ASUS TUF Gaming laptop | BUY NOW AMAZON

ASUS TUF 15.6 Gaming laptop

Specifications – Processor: Ryzen 7 4800H, MB: 4.8 GHz; Display size: 15.6in 144Hz; RAM: 8GB DDR4; Display resolution: 1920 x 1080px; GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB GDDR6; Storage: 256GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD; Weight: 2.3kg; Operating System: Windows 10 Home;

The ASUS Tuf is possibly the best gaming laptop under £1000 with an Nvidia RTX 206o graphics card. Furthermore, ASUS is popular brand for offering budget-friendly mid-range laptops and one of few gaming laptop brands who manufacture there own gaming machines.

The ASUS Tuf FA506 is not the slimmest or the lightest gaming laptop under £1000, but that shouldn’t matter if you are set on purchasing a budget friendly laptop.

They have paired the RTX 2060 with an AMD Ryzen 4800H mobile processor that offers 8 CPU cores, and runs at 2.9GHz with a potential max boost of 4.2GHz. The CPU also comes with AMD Radeon™ Integrated Graphics and will give you a little extra performance.

Aesthetically, the ASUS Tuf looks like how a gaming laptop should look. With a military-graded chassis and a striking X pattern on the lid, and dead centre is a large and stylish ASUS gradient logo, completed by a complementary sand-blasted finish.

Why Consider the ASUS Gaming laptop Under £1000?

For starters it pairs an impressive Ryzen chip which is fast at multicore workloads an even faster than the equivalent Intel 10th Gen mobile processors. Amazingly, only marginally slower than the older i7 10750H mobile processor you will find in many gaming laptops for a higher price.

Add that to the equally impressive NVIDIA RTX 2060 graphics card with 6GB of memory. Which allows for Ray-tracing in games so you can enjoy lifelike, shadowing and reflections.

Not only that, but you can also improve performance by enabling DLSS technology which is only available on RTX graphics cards. And both of these technologies will improve your gaming and give you an extra performance boost in games such as Call of Duty, FNAF, and Tomb Raider.

That said, this hardware is only as good as the cooling in the laptop. But because the ASUS TUF has five heat pipes this will help to draw the heat away and dissipate it quickly through the heatsinks and fan outlets. Which should be enough to help keep the temperatures low.

Finally, the spec is concluded by 8GB DDR4 RAM, although 16GB would be better, and a 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD. Other than that, there are a plethora of ports, including an HDMI, USB 2.0, 3.5mm combo jack and USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A.

The downside with this laptop is that the Wi-Fi isn’t the best, but can easily be upgraded. And there is only 256 GB of storage, again more can be added and same goes for the RAM.

ASUS Gaming Laptop Verdict

Overall, this laptop with this spec will make an excellent gaming laptop under £1000. It’s a well-built gaming machine, paired with a decent CPU and graphics chip, and especially for the price. It’s no wonder the ASUS TUF RTX 2060 machines has become the best selling laptop at this price point.

3. Best Value for Money HP Pavilion 15.6-inch

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop | BUY NOW AMAZON

HP Pavillion 15.6

Specifications – Processor: Ryzen 7 4800H, MB: 4.2 GHz; Display size: 15.6in; RAM: 8GB DDR4-3200 SDRAM; Display resolution: 1920 x 1080px; GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti 6 GB GDDR6; Storage: 512GB PCIe SSD; Weight: 1.98kg; Operating System: Windows 10 Home;

HP is known for producing mid to high-end laptops including the HP Omen 15  and the HP Pavilion laptop range. This particular machine is a decent mid-range budget laptop, and one of the cheapest and lightest (only 1.98KG) in my top five gaming laptops under £1000.

HP managed to squeeze inside a Ryzen 7 4800H mobile processor offering clock speeds up to 4 GHz, with 8 CPU cores and 16 threads and it will give you a busting gaming performance on the go.

It’s just a shame HP didn’t pair the Ryzen CPU with an NVIDIA RTX 20 series graphics card but the GTX 1660-Ti GPU is the next best thing. And still, it will handle mainstream gaming without problems, as long as its paired with decent components elsewhere.

Why consider buying the HP Pavilion gaming laptop?

The components are concluded by 8GB DDR4 3200MHz SDRAM, which is two sticks of 4GB RAM. And the RAM can be upgraded, to 32GB, which is always a good thing as your gaming escalates. And only if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty.

Also supplied is a 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD, the quickest storage solution on the market and a good size to start your gaming journey. Other than that, the panel is FHD, IPS with anti-glare and micro-edge to give you a clearer and comfortable viewing experience. And on the sides, HP has included the usual suspects, RJ-45 ethernet, USB 2.0 and USB Type-c, so, unfortunately, no ultra-fast Thunderbolt 3, but to be expected for the price.

The keyboard is decent a Qwerty Backlit Keyboard with Numeric Keypad on a UK layout. And you have access to the Omen gaming hub with one click using the hub key. So you can take full control over your cooling, games and keyboard colour profiles.

Finally, like with my HP Omen, the Pavilion boasts Bang & Olufsen speakers and they sound amazing for gaming and listening to music. And you will also benefit from using the HP audio boost, and custom tuning and they are both a nice added feature with HP gaming machines.

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop Verdict

Overall, the HP pavilion is an excellent gaming laptop under £1000. My laptop is the HP Omen, and if that is anything to go by, this HP laptop will be superb for gaming. That said, my spec is a little higher, but they are HP laptops all the same, and I have yet to find a fault.

What Should I look for in a Cheap Gaming Laptop?

Buying a cheap gaming laptop could be a disaster if you decide to buy a laptop that cannot run your games. So, the first bit of advice I can give to anyone beginning their gaming journey is to always check the system requirements of the game you intend to play.

So what is a cheap gaming laptop? Well, that’s a difficult question to answer because a cheap gaming laptop to me may be an expensive machine to someone else. Or visa versa.

But, one thing is for sure, gaming laptops are becoming cheaper faster, simply because laptop hardware is advancing much quicker. What I mean is, you can now buy a base RTX gaming laptop for less than £1000. Which last year was classed as an expensive laptop and would cost so much more.

Moreover, if you take the games Minecraft, Roblox, the cheapest gaming laptop that will run these games will cost around £500. But, if you are looking to play games a bit more demanding games like Fortnite you can pick up a decent machine for around £700.

And then there are games like COD Warzone, Read Dead, and the Witcher games that are a little more graphics intensive. But you can still find a cheap gaming laptop under £1000 that will not only run them but will also give you respectable frame rates.

Best Cheap Gaming laptop Specs

  • Minimum – Nvidia GTX 1050 / AMD RX 560x graphics
  • Minimum – Intel Core i5 (9th gen) / AMD Ryzen 5 (3rd gen) processor
  • Memory – 8GB of RAM Minimum
  • Storage – 256GB solid-state drive Minimum
  • Display – 120Hz refresh rate display monitor

What makes a good gaming laptop under £1000?

A good gaming laptop under £1000 will allow you to play the latest in-demand games on relatively decent settings without the laptop overheating, or breaking down.

Take Fortnite for instance, a hugely popular battle royale game played by millions daily. Or Call of Duty, which is another popular first-person shooter game. And there are many others, like PUBG, FIFA, or even Flight simulator by Microsoft.

My point is, a good gaming laptop under £1000 should run these types of games, like the 3 laptops listed above. Maybe not with the settings turned to ultra, max, or even high. But there will be a setting that will work fine and give you an enjoyable experience.

The Hardware that makes a Good Gaming Laptop

A good gaming laptop for less than £1000 should have at least 8 GB of RAM. And anything less, then it should be a no, no. The graphics card should be dedicated, which means a standalone graphics card.

However, integrated graphics are still ok and will use less power. But not for this price point you should be treated to a decent graphics card like with the ASUS RTX 2060 or the HP Pavilion GTX 1660-Ti.

As for storage, the storage supplied should be no less than 512 GB, and definitely not an hard drive. Ideally, you want an SSD. But, if you can find a mid-range laptop with a spare bay to install extra storage, then that would be great.

Although, a gaming laptop with only 256 GB storage is still ok, just as long as the other components are decent. Like with the MSI gaming laptop, it has a 256 GB SSD and the graphics card is an RTX 2060 so what’s not to like.

And finally the processor, it should be no older than mid-2019, an Intel i5 9 or 10th generation or an AMD Ryzen 4000 series processor like with the HP Pavilion gaming laptop, or the ASUS TUF FA506 above, both would make a good gaming laptop for less than £1000.

What Graphics Cards will you get with a gaming laptop under £1000?

Even with the absolute best gaming laptop under £1000, you will not be experiencing the latest lifelike shadowing and reflections you get with the latest 30 series RTX ray-tracing graphics cards.

If you do, its extremely rare, because there isn’t many gaming laptops under £1000 paired with an RTX 30 series NVIDIA graphic card. And, if you do manage to grab one it will definitely have the lowest graphics power consumption, possibly an RTX 3060 GPU Max-Q variant with a TGP of 60W and the lowest clock speed.

But for this price range you should still get a decent graphics card, maybe not the latest or the fastest, but, one that will allow you to embark on a journey and enjoy a mid-range gaming experience and reach the FPS you need to compete.

Each gaming laptop listed above comes with a decent graphics card, and, will meet the minimum system requirement for most AAA games we all love and play. Not only that, they will exceed the recommended requirements for many others.

So when you buy gaming laptop under £1000 expect a laptop with at least an NVIDIA 16 series graphics card. OR even better a laptop with an RTX 20 series variant.

And anything less then you should be paying at lot less than £1000 for your gaming laptop.

Will you get a fast CPU for your £1000 gaming laptop?

Buying a gaming laptop under £1000 is more than enough money to spend to expect a laptop with a decent processor. Luckily, you don’t need to break the bank to get ones with an impressive brain (CPU).

Intel and AMD produce the best processors for gaming laptops and your choice of either AMD or Intel will be decided on what you plan to do. Are you buying it just for gaming? or do you plan to use your laptop for work as well as gaming?

The reason I ask is because Intel CPUs will perform better on single-core tasks (work related) but will cost a little more. Whereas AMD CPUs will perform better at extremely demanding multitasking workloads, i.e. gaming.

An AMD Ryzen 4000 series processor or an Intel i5 10th Gen processor would be best

If you can find a decent gaming laptop under £1000 with either an Intel i5 or i7 10th gen processor. Or an AMD 4000 series mobile CPU they would be best for gaming.

But you will also find an abundance of excellent laptops with Intel 9th Gen CPUs. And the same can be said for AMD. The Ryzen 3000 series CPUs are decent mobile processors and will ensure you enjoy a good mobile gaming experience.

My Current Gaming Machine: HP Omen 15

And paired with the discrete graphics cards mentioned above, you should have more than enough processing and graphics power to become a competitive gamer in more games than one.

Titles such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, FIFA 21, and CS Go should run well. Just as long as you have the required RAM (at least 8GB). And also be prepared to tone down the settings.

Check the Recommended System Requirements for your Games?

Every laptop game will have a minimum and recommended system requirements to run the game smoothly. But, if you buy a laptop with hardware that is less than the minimum requirements your game may stutter and you may experience lag.

My advice would be to find a gaming laptop that will meet the recommended system requirements of the games you intend to play. If your budget can stretch that bit further, try and purchase a gaming laptop with a better CPU, GPU, and more RAM than what is required.

That said, your game will still function ok with the absolute minimum required hardware. But, without a doubt, your game will run faster, smoother and perform better overall with the recommended hardware. Or above.

Moreover, RAM is also a vitally important factor, and why a gaming laptop with 8GB is the absolute minimum you need for gaming. A laptop with 16GB RAM or even 32GB, would be better, but will definitely bump up the price.

So, before you go out and buy your shiny new gaming laptop under £1000. It’s a good idea to check the recommended system requirements of each game you intend to play.

This could save you money, money that could be spent elsewhere. Like a brand new laptop accessory, to further improve your gaming. Or a laptop cooling pad to help cool down you laptop.

Either way, checking these details beforehand will be worth its weight in gold.

How to check the system requirement?

To check the system requirements of your games, you can either visit the game vendors website and search, “system requirements” using the website search bar. Alternatively, you can use a popular website like Game System Requirements Or, contact me and I will do my very best to help.

Final Thoughts…

On this page there are three of the best gaming laptops under £1000. Each capable of delivering a decent mid-range gaming experience. Although, at this price point you may find it difficult to find a laptop able to maintain the highest frame rate in the most demanding game titles.

For that you would need to increase your budget, to say £1200 and buy the HP Omen 15 Ryzen 7 and RTX 2060. The exact machine I enjoy everyday.

This Omen 15 will ensure you enjoy high frame rates even in the most demanding games. Also, ray-tracing and improved performance with DLSS.

But, if you are set on your budget, the three gaming laptops above are definitely the best of the rest of gaming laptops under £1000.

Hopefully, you now have a good idea of the standard of laptop you can get for less than £1000. And your decision-making process has been made a little easier than before you visited Jimmtech.
