Choosing The Best Gaming Laptops Under 800?

We know how hard it is to choose a good laptop in this price range. That’s why we have searched all over the web and found 5 of the best options under 800. These laptops are perfect for gamers who want to play games without spending thousands on their computer.

So, what should you be looking for when looking for a gaming laptop under 800? 8GB should be the very least amount of RAM with scope to upgrade once you have saved some money. Most games will run fine with 8GBs at your disposal, but 16GB would be the sweet spot because you can run other programmes and apps while gaming.

A 256GB SSD should be expected, but if you find one with more, lucky you. As for the processor, an Intel i5 or i7 9th, 10th or 11th Gen would be about right. If it’s an AMD machine, don’t consider anything less than an AMD Ryzen 5 4000 series CPU.

All that’s left is the graphics power, and an Nvidia 16 series GPU would be affordable with an 800 laptop budget. However, there’s a couple of budget options pairing the newer RTX 3050 Nvidia GPU, that would be worth considering. But if you do decide a cheaper budget laptop with integrated graphics would be best, expect the games you can play to be limited.

To make your decision easier, we have compiled this list below of the best laptops in this price range You won’t regret buying any of these amazing machines that offer top-notch performance at an affordable price point.

They come with some pretty cool features like fast display’s and backlit keyboards that will take your gaming experience up a notch or two (or three). So what are you waiting for? Scroll down, and check them out now!

MSI GF63 Thin 15 Gaming Laptop

Specifications – Processor: Intel Core i5-8300H, MB: 4.10 GHz; Display size: 15.6in 60Hz FHD; RAM: 8GB DDR4 (MAX 64GB); Display resolution: 1920 x 1080px; GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1650 4GB; Storage: 256GB NVMe SSD; Weight: 3.46kg; Operating System: Windows 10

MSI has many gorgeous portable options, and the new high-spec MSI Stealth laptop is something to be reckoned with. But today, we are only interested in the best budget gaming laptops under 800.

The MSI GF63 is one of them, and it pairs an Intel 10th Gen 4 core CPU that runs between 2.5Ghz and 4.5GHz with an Nvidia GTX 1650-Ti GPU so not the fastest from Nvidia but you should be able to maintain 60fps on medium settings. Though, this laptop only has an entry level 60Hz display so that’s something to think about.

The components are concluded by 8GB DDR4 3200 MHz RAM and a 256 SSD, which is not very much (storage) but there is space to add a further storage solution and additional RAM.

What’s more, the MF63 does have a full-size single RGB backlit keyboard that includes a number pad. There is also a plethora of ports including USB-Type C for fast data transfer and Wi-Fi 6 to ensure the best internet connection. The 48WHr 3-cell lithium-ion battery isn’t bad either, offering three to fours hours of run time.

Overall, the MSI GF63 is not the slimmest or lightest but that’s not to say it’s not one of the best gaming laptops under 800. In terms of performance, this laptop should match many others at this price point. It’s just a shame it doesn’t come with more storage.

LENOVO IDEAPAD 15.6 Budget Laptop

Specifications – Processor: Intel Core i5-9300H, MB: 4.10 GHz; Display size: 15.6in 60Hz FHD; RAM: 8GB DDR4 (MAX 32GB); Display resolution: 1920 x 1080px; GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1650 4GB; Storage: 512GB NVMe SSD; Weight: 2.19kg; Operating System: Windows 10

Next up, our choice for the best gaming laptop under 750. The Lenovo Ideapad is another Nvidia GTX 16 series gaming machine. This one also has two distinctive modes. With the flick of a button, you have “Quiet-Mode” for working or chilling. Plus “Quick-Mode” for gaming which is helpful.

It pairs an Intel i5 9th Gen CPU which is not as fast as the Intel Comet Lake-H series processor with the MSI laptop above. But still, it clocks between 2.4 and 4.1 GHz and has 4 cores. There are faster Core i5 9th Gen mobile CPUs out there, but not at this price point.

Lenovo has paired the CPU with a discrete Nvidia GTX 1650 4GB graphics card, 8GB RAM and a 512GB SSD. Upgrades? There isn’t much room to manoeuvre with a max RAM of 16GB. Although there is a bay for an HDD if you don’t mind squeaky spinning disks. The battery power is not the best, but it’s a gaming laptop. So, you should plug it in for gaming.

The Lenovo Ideapad is not the fastest gaming laptop under 800. Yet, it would suit someone new to video gameplay. This is an ideal laptop for games such as Minecraft, GTA, DOOM, and Roblox and also a hatful of games on Steam. But for high fidelity gaming, this laptop may struggle.

Guide: Best Budget Gaming Laptops Under 800?

It doesn’t matter what budget you have, you will always need to consider the same components. But, there are some features that won’t matter when you’re looking to buy the best gaming laptops under 800.

You won’t need to consider, does it have a thunderbolt 4 port? What refresh rate does it have, is it 240Hz or 300Hz? Does it have an Nvidia RTX 3080, 3070 or even an RTX 3060 graphics card? These are the types of questions you would ask if your budget had four figures. Like the best gaming laptops under 1000 and not three.

But the questions you will need to answer are, what CPU does it have? How powerful is the GPU? How much RAM and storage does the laptop come with? And, How good is the cooling? All important questions with a budget under 800.

So in the next 5 laptop buying tips I will go through and answer these questions. This will help buying a budget gaming laptop for $800 or less, somewhat easier.

1. Choosing The Processor For The Best Gaming Laptops Under 800

While it would be nice to crank up your laptop and enjoy the latest and greatest from Intel or AMD. But, with a budget under 800 it’s not possible. Yet, what is possible is a laptop processor with at least 4 CPU Cores, either an Intel i5 9th or 10th Gen mobile CPU. An Intel i5 10300H, or an Intel i5 9300H which are both decent in speed and gaming performance would be good. Although, if I had to choose, the former (10300H) would be best because it’s faster across the board.

There are also decent budget laptops under $800 with 6 Core CPUs. These will give you that bit more gaming performance. i.e. the AMD Ryzen 5 4600H, or the newer Ryzen 5600H mobile processors would be good.  But a gaming laptop accommodating the new AMD 5000 series CPUs may be a tad over your 800 budget. But if your pockets are that bit deeper. It would be worth investing in the Ryzen 5000 series gaming laptop, it will be worth its weight in gold.

That’s not to say the 4600H CPU is not up to scratch, because it is. You can also find very good laptops with AMD Ryzen 3000 mobile processors. Like the AMD Ryzen 3 3550H and the 3500U, and you will pay a bit less.

2. Ensure you have enough RAM?

You can’t be a serious gamer without enough memory. The difference between having the right amount and too little is immense. Your system will suffer, and all those other programmes you have running on your computer need some as well!

For gaming, a good starting point would be 8GB of RAM. My current machine came with 16GB RAM. I was able to run Call of Duty Warzone (Recommended 12GB). Plus, run my system’s vitals software and record gameplay without experiencing performance issues.

But not all games need as much RAM. Most games recommend to have at least 8GB. This is why I’ll always recommend you look at the games you intend to play. Plus, look at what else you plan to do with the laptop besides gaming before deciding how much RAM you need.

Another important factor to ensure, can you upgrade the RAM at a later date. Because there are some budget laptops under 800 that will only allow 16 GB RAM in total. Or worse, some budget laptops you cannot upgrade at all.

This means you could be stuck with as little as 4 GB RAM, which is not enough to enjoy a good gaming experience. So make sure two things, first you can add more RAM. Second, think about what else you’ll be doing, while your gaming.

3. Get the best budget graphics card?

Having the best graphics card in town is the holy grail for every gaming enthusiast. So much so there’s been a worldwide shortage as manufacturers failed to keep up with demand in 2020.

But in 2021, mobile GPUs have become more affordable. You can now pick up a GeForce Nvidia RTX 30 series laptop for less than $1000. This means laptops with Nvidia GTX 16 and RTX 20 series graphics cards have landed in the budget-friendly laptop space. Now, it’s possible to enjoy a ray-tracing gaming experience for under $1000.

But what about the best gaming laptop under 800? They should have at least an Nvidia GTX 1650, 1660, or 1660-Ti mobile GPU. For the record, the latter is more powerful than the GTX 1660 as it has a higher TGP (total graphics power). There are also decent budget machines with the older GTX10 series GPUs, which are still ok for casual gaming.

You may also come across many budget laptops featuring integrated graphics. And these laptops are ok for games such as Minecraft, Roblox, and Skyrim. But they are not the best for more mainstream gaming.

If these are the games you want to play, you can save a pretty penny and invest in a laptop with integrated graphics. It’s worth noting, unlike a gaming PC, laptops are not as flexible when it comes to upgrading, especially the graphics card. So, once you make your decision and buy your budget gaming laptop under 800, there is no going back.

Games With Integrated Graphics

4. Budget laptop display and resolution?

The best gaming laptops under 800 will have a screen resolution of 1920×1080, which is great, for today’s games. And still, the most popular screen resolution used by mobile gamers. The previous go to res for laptops was the 1366×768 resolution which is not as common on newer gaming machines.

Ok, 1440p or 4K resolutions will make your games look much better, but it will also bump up the price of the laptop. Besides, a screen res of 1080p is fine and an FHD (full high definition) over an HD would be best. This would give you much higher FPS and still offer decent quality images.

As for the refresh rate, a budget laptop with a 120Hz display would be good. But, some budget laptops that are knocking about offer 144Hz IPS panels and they would be best.

As for laptop size, most laptops at this price point will have a 15.6-inch form factor. This is a good size for portability, and won’t be too heavy to carry about. Some would recommend 17 inches for gaming but my laptop is 15.6-s and it works well for me.

The best screen size will depend on how you plan to use the laptop. If you are travelling a lot, a smaller laptop would be best, a 15.6 or 14-inch laptop. Whereas, if your laptop stays at home a 17-inch laptop would suit but would be a little pricier.

The perfect budget gaming laptop under 800 would have a 15.6-inch display. With a 120Hz/144Hz refresh rate with a screen res of 1080p. This spec would offer the best immersive gaming experience. Plus, your images would look crisp and smooth.

5. Find the best storage solutions?

The amount of storage options a laptop comes with is key to my decision making process. If I can add more storage at some point I am not too fussed how much storage the laptop lands with.

The best gaming laptop under 800 would come with an M.2 SSD drive to use as the main storage. Plus, a spare M.2 slot to add a second SSD. If the laptop comes with a 512GB SSD, that’s perfect especially for a budget laptop under 800.

What I tend to do, and what I recommend is find a budget laptop with 2 SSD slots. Use the stock SSD for booting the system and storing your main games and programmes. Then, buy a 2nd SSD to use as your secondary storage, and store games you don’t play as often, or photo’s, and videos.

This way your system boots up without fuss. So when you save gameplay, or move files from one place to another. Anything that involves transferring data. It’s all done in no time at all.

Gaming On Gaming Laptops Under 800?

The best gaming laptops under 800 can run most games, such as Fortnite, PUBG, World of Warcraft, and Call of Duty Warzone. The only bummer is you will not reach 100+ frames rates too often. But, you should enjoy at least 60+ fps.

Looking For: Best Laptops for Call of Duty Warzone

Each of the five budget gaming laptops listed above will run most games on medium to high settings. On medium, you should expect to get around 60-70 fps, on high around 30-50 fps.  However, if you desire is to play first-person shooter games like Warzone, it would be best to have at least 16GB RAM. Yet, with 8 GB, this game would still be playable.

But, for single-player games like Doom, Zelda, The Last of Us, these sorts of games, a budget laptop would be just fine. You can also enjoy many hours of gaming fun on game engine platforms, such as Steam and Stadia with a budget laptop.

It’s also worth noting that the cooling of the laptop, will play a big part in its performance. And, MSI has a reputation for having superb cooling in their budget gaming laptop ranges. I’m not saying the MSI model is the one you should go with. But if you look at the results in the table below, it shows how good their laptops are.

Although, the model tested has a different spec than the MSI laptop above. But these results highlight just how good the cooling is in MSI’s gaming laptops. Compared to the other budget gaming laptops on the market right now!

Other Things to Consider When Buying The Best Gaming Laptops Under 800?

Choosing a gaming laptop can be stressful, and for some, it may even be as stressful as buying your first house. But it doesn’t have to be. If you know what you are looking for when shopping for the best gaming laptops under 800, this laptop buying process will be made much easier.

So, follow my advice below, and it will take away some of those fears. And help you find the best gaming laptop for your money. First, write down the list of games you intend to play. Jump onto their websites (the games) and search for the minimum and recommended system requirements. Then, jot down the required RAM, storage, CPU and graphics card for both. (min and rec).

Next, look at your list, and find the highest recommended. Plus, the lowest minimum hardware requirements from each game. Using this data, you can now see the required spec of the laptop you need to consider. So, if you buy a gaming laptop below these requirements, you will experience stutter, lag, and other performance issues.

If you buy a gaming laptop above the highest recommended system requirements. One with more RAM, storage, graphics and processing power. You’ll be one happy gamer as you will be able to run all the games you intend to play. It’s that simple. If you choose a laptop that lands in between, you know you’ll be able to play the games you wish to play. And save money in the process.

Consider What Gaming Laptop Accessories You’ll Need?

Gaming on laptops can be so much fun. But for the best experience, you need to consider what gaming laptop accessories you need. For gaming, your trackpad isn’t up to scratch. So you will need a decent gaming mouse. You also need to think about buying a laptop cooling pad, to help cool down your laptop in those sweaty lobbies.

And yes, laptop cooling pads do work.

Next up, the best external keyboard will be a good laptop gaming friend. Especially if you plan to play fast-action shooters, games with plenty of gunfire. Choosing an external keyboard will help prevent you from smashing your keyboard keys.

Plus, there’s nothing better than hearing the sound of gunfire right up close. For that, you will need a gaming headset. So, why not consider a budget wired headset and the same one I use which is the Razer Kraken Wired Gaming Headset.

Or, if you fancy something a bit more swish. Check out the most expensive headsets. Or the perfect option for games where you need to be stealthy, then consider the best gaming headset for hearing enemy footsteps.

I know there are many other laptop gaming accessories you can add to improve your gaming. The list could go on and on. But for starters, as long as you have a decent mouse, a gaming headset, a laptop cooling pad, and an external keyboard, you will be laughing all the way to your first dub.
