best laptop you can play Minecraft on

The best laptop you can play Minecraft on does not need to break the bank. And you don’t need to worry about the latest products from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel. Or worry your self about the best laptop under 1000, or even the best laptop under 800 for that matter.

Today it is rare for a video-game to blow you away with how it plays, given how good modern games have become. And it is even rarer when that game looks like something you would play on a Spectrum-64 back in the late eighties

Don’t be fooled by Minecraft’s 3D pixel art, as there is so much fun to be had beneath the blocky never-ending terrain. Besides, Minecraft is not the world’s best-selling video game of all time for no reason. What other game will allow you the freedom to mine gold and diamonds, farm crops and craft tools?

Not many. Therefore, it is vitally important to have the right tools, including the best affordable laptop to play Minecraft on. So you can mine your gold and build your compounds. And one day, hopefully, defeat the ender dragon.

You also need a decent laptop with plenty of gas left in the tank to master other games or browse the web looking for additional laptop accessories to help improve your gaming further.

ASUS has always been one of my favourite brands of laptops. Because of how they are ODM (original design manufacturer). For this reason, I believe you will always get quality when you buy an ASUS light gaming machine.

The ASUS Vivo-book is no different, one of the smallest laptops at 14-inch and possibly the lightest at 1.3KG but don’t let this put you off.

On the inside, there is a nippy AMD Ryzen 7 4700U mobile CPU. With 8 Cores that runs at 2.0GHz and a possible max clock speed of 4.1GHz. Plus, the inclusion of AMD’s RX Vega 8 Graphics.

They have paired the CPU with 8GB DDR4 RAM and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe SSD. Again, more than enough to start your Minecraft gaming journey, and you should be able to play Minecraft on the highest settings with this hardware combination.

Aesthetically, the Vivi-book laptop looks sleek and professional and is made of sturdy plastic. The viewing angles are not the best, but it does offer a four-sided Nano edge display that boasts an 82 Percent screen-to-body ratio.

The keyboard has a stand-out colour blocking Enter key if that helps, and a 1.4mm actuation distance. Another great feature to mention is the inclusion of the ultra-fast reversible USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port, great for connecting your external powered devices. Other ports include HDMI, USB 2.0, and there is also a microSD card reader. So happy peripherals you shall have.

Overall, a super light gaming laptop that will happily take you around the Minecraft world and back. Superb for light graphics editing using graphic design apps, browsing, and emailing would be a doddle. For this price point, you will be getting a decent, but small, light-gaming machine.

Specifications – Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 4600H, MB: 4.0 GHz; Display size: 15.6in; RAM: 8GB DDR SDRAM; Display resolution: 1080p Full HD; Graphics:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 + AMD Radeon Vega Integrated; Storage: 256 GB NVMe PCIe SSD; Weight: 2.0kg; Operating System: Windows 10 Home;

If you love a bargain and your budget is a little higher, the HP Pavilion 15.6-inch gaming machine should be in your shopping cart. This laptop will be able to play many games other than Minecraft.

It pairs the Ryzen 5 4600H entry-level processor, it has 6 CPU cores that run at a swift 3.0GHz base clock speed and a possible 4.0GHz at the higher end.

The Ryzen 5 4600H is much faster in terms of multi-threaded performance than higher and more expensive Intel mobile processors. And this means a better processor for gaming. And then there is an NVIDIA GTX discrete graphics card.

Ok, it is not the latest or the fastest mobile discrete graphics chip from NVIDIA. But, for this price point and paired with the Ryzen processor, you should achieve 60 frames per second in many popular game titles, albeit on low to medium settings. And you will be smashing the 200 frame rate barrier @1080p in no time at all playing Minecraft.

The components are concluded by 8 GB DDR4 RAM and a 256 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. And there is room to upgrade if you feel you need to.

And the ports consist of 3 x USB ports with one of them a USB Type-C for fast charging. Also, HDMI, WIFI-5 and the other usual suspects.

Overall, the HP Pavilion is probably over the budget to what you had in mind for a laptop to play Minecraft on but you won’t be disappointed.

What you need, to play Minecraft on laptop?

Play-Minecraft-On-Laptop

Playing Minecraft on a laptop can be so much fun, my own children spend countless hours playing Minecraft on their devices and never seem to get bored. I keep asking them if they have defeated the Ender Dragon and every time I get the same answer. Which is not yet, or it’s not easy.

One uses their iPad to run Minecraft whereas the other plays Minecraft on their Xbox. And I also have Minecraft installed on my laptop, which is the same laptop I use for work.

It just goes to show you can play Minecraft on most devices, and that includes mobile devices. But, I think the best Minecraft experience would be had on a bigger screen. i.e. a laptop screen.

Many laptops can run Minecraft, simply because the minimum system requirements are nothing to extreme. But this would depend on which Minecraft version you choose to play.

But first, to enjoy the thrills and spills of playing any of the Minecraft mode’s you would need to meet the minimum system requirements.

And for the Minecraft Java edition, you won’t need the latest Ray-tracing NVIDIA graphics card. Nor would you need to spend a fortune because a laptop around £400 – £600 would be a great laptop for playing the Minecraft Java edition mode.

The graphics are minimal compared to other game titles, and the lighting and shading we are used to in gaming are almost non-existent. Therefore, a light gaming laptop with integrated graphics would be fine.

That said, Minecraft is RAM and processor intensive so will eat away a good chunk of your laptops processing power and memory. That’s why an Intel Core i3 mobile CPU or the equivalent AMD 3rd Gen processor is required to run Minecraft smoothly on your laptop.

In addition, your laptop must also have at least 4 GB RAM but 8 GB would be much better and at least 2 GB free hard disk drive space. Ideally, an SSD would be better.

Minecraft Ray Tracing Version on a Laptop

To run the Minecraft with Ray Tracing version, you would need more than a laptop with integrated graphics and an Intel i3 mobile processor.

The laptop would need to be Direct X 12 compatible and have a capable Nvidia RTX 20 series or NVIDIA RTX 30 series graphics card. Or the equivalent AMD Radeon RX mobile chip.

But, for this level of hardware, your budget would need to be upwards of £1000. And there are some fantastic deals on £1000 gaming laptops that will be more than capable of running Minecraft with Ray Tracing.

In addition, the laptop would also need to have at least 8 GB RAM, and you must have the latest Windows 10 64-bit version installed. As well as Direct X 12 compatibility.

One such laptop is my current gaming machine which is the budget friendly and extremely impressive HP Omen 15. That pairs an excellent AMD Ryzen 7 4800H mobile CPU with an equally impressive NVIDIA RTX 2060 graphics card.

The Omen is the perfect example of an affordable gaming laptop which is more than capable of delivering Minecraft Ray Tracing to you on a plate, and more.

If you would like to know more about the HP Omen gaming laptop you can HP Omen 15

Minimum System Requirements to Play Minecraft on your Laptop?

The minimum spec laptop to play Minecraft on is just that, minimal. Therefore, to play the Java Edition, you would only need a gaming laptop with an INTEL HD 4000 integrated graphics card. Or if you can, a laptop with an NVIDIA 400M series standalone graphics card.

Whereas, the processor would need to be an Intel i3 3rd generation processor or the equivalent AMD processor, like a Ryzen 3 or 5 2000 series. Again, nothing too crazy and wouldn’t be too expensive to find a laptop offering these processors.

In addition, you would need 2 GB of RAM the old DDR3 type should be ok. Also, a hard disk drive with 2 GB of storage space to squeeze in one, or maybe two tiny Minecraft worlds.

Finally, Windows 7 would be ok. But if you are buying a new laptop, you should have Windows 10 installed already, well, at least Windows 10 S mode and that would still be ok but not the best.

Minimum Requirements to Play Minecraft on a laptop.

HardwareMinimum System Requirements
ProcessorIntel i3 3210M or AMD A10/ Ryzen 3 2000 series Mobile Processors
Integrated GraphicsHD 4000 Graphics or Radeon HD 7000 series
Discrete GraphicsNVIDIA 600M or AMD Radeon 7000M Mobile GPUs
RAM4 GB
Storage2 GB HDD
Operating SystemWindows 7 (Windows 10 would be best)

Recommended Minecraft Laptop Requirements?

The recommended Minecraft laptop requirements would not send too many shivers down a gamers spine. Although, will require a higher spec laptop, and would be more expensive than the minimum required hardware.

So what are they?

The recommended laptop processor for Minecraft Java would need to be an INTEL Core i5 mobile processor or the equivalent AMD processor, anyone of the AMD Ryzen laptop processors will run Minecraft, but if you have the budget for a Ryzen 3000 series that would be best, if not Ryzen 4000.

In addition, you would need 8GB of RAM and 2 GB of storage space available. More storage would be better so you can download more files, save more photos, and possibly play more games.

Other than that, you need to be using Windows 10 and have an internet connection for downloading the Minecraft files and also for playing online with your friends, and then your good to go.

Ensuring your laptop has the recommended hardware to play Minecraft on will enable you to run the game smoothly and allow you to create Minecraft worlds to your heart’s content.

Below, you will only find the recommended Minecraft laptop requirements.

And a laptop with these recommendations will give you the processing power you need, and more than enough RAM, decent graphics, and the right amount of storage to start you on your Minecraft gaming journey.

And, either of the laptops listed above will allow you to enjoy Minecraft without lagging. In addition, they will help you become a master at Minecraft just like me.

Hey, that was a joke by the way.

Recommended Minecraft Laptop Requirements.

HardwareRecommended System Requirements
ProcessorIntel i7-6500U or AMD Ryzen 3, 5, or 7 3000 series Mobile Processor
Integrated GraphicsIntel® HD Graphics 520 or Radeon RX Vega
Discrete GraphicsNVIDIA 900M, GTX 10 series or higher
RAM8 GB
Storage4 GB SSD
Operating SystemWindows 10 (latest version)

Recommended Processor: Minecraft Laptop Requirements

Although the recommended processor to play Minecraft on is an INTEL i5-4690, (3.50 GHz, 6 MB Cache, 84 W) however, this processor is for desktop computers.

See: MINECRAFT: JAVA EDITION SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Whereas, laptop processors are a little different they are called mobile processors, and much smaller than desktop processors.

INTEL mobile processors have letters after the numbers, either a U, H or older models will have an M. And, AMD mobile processors will have either H or U depending on the model.

My recommendation for an Intel mobile processor for a good laptop to play Minecraft would be an Intel i5 8th, 9th or better still 10th gen, processor. However, you would probably get away with an older Intel CPU. But we are talking about the recommended system requirements to play Minecraft.

Additionally, if you prefer AMD, an AMD 3000 series processor with Radeon integrated graphics would make a good laptop for playing Minecraft. However, a later and much more powerful AMD 4000 series CPU would be best. But not necessary.

These laptop processors would be superb for Minecraft and will handle almost anything the game throws at you. Just remember the higher the processor, the more power your laptop will have to run Minecraft, and other games you intend to play.

Recommended Graphics: Minecraft Laptop Requirements

Fortunately, you don’t need the best graphics card to play Minecraft on your laptop because Minecraft is RAM and CPU intensive due to the java coding. Therefore, you would only need a low-level GPU to meet the recommended graphics to play Minecraft.

Unless you plan to play the Minecraft version requiring the latest ray-tracing and physically based rendering (PBR), then you would need a gaming laptop with a top of the range NVIDIA RTX Graphics Card. And nothing else would do, costing well over £1000.

But to play the Java version of Minecraft, an NVIDIA GeForce 700M series graphics card or above, or an AMD Radeon 300M series card would also be ok. But you might struggle to find tons of gaming laptops offering these chips.

You will however, find a wider-range of laptops with the NVIDIA GTX 10 series or GTX 16 series graphics cards. Still, you will be buying an affordable mid-range gaming laptop, around £800 – £1000.

The Memory (RAM): Minecraft Laptop Requirements

Ideally, you would need 4GB of memory (RAM) or above. The old DDR3 would be fine, thou the DDR4 type would be better, which is the latest variant of memory in laptops and PCs.

You will find most laptops around the £600-£800 range will come with 8GB RAM installed, and 8GB is a decent starting point for gaming. And 8GB would be perfect for Minecraft.

TIP: If you decide to buy a laptop with only 4Gb RAM (Just enough to meet the recommended RAM for Minecraft) check to see if this can be upgraded. Because you will need more RAM to play other games.

Storage: Minecraft Laptop Requirements

For Minecraft, you would only need around 4GB of storage space, which these days is nothing at all. And the best laptop for Minecraft would need to have an SSD as the storage solution. An SSD will help save your gameplay quicker and help start-up your laptops faster. Oh, and less noisy (Than an HDD) due to no spinning disks.

Light gaming laptops at this price point should come with at least a 256GB SSD, with some laptops have 512GB. So, I do not think you should be too concerned about the storage requirements of Minecraft. Just as long as you are aware, an SSD would be best.

Why Meet Minecraft’s Recommended System Requirements?

My advice would always be to meet the recommended system requirements for the games you intend to play, and not the minimum. And if your budget can stretch that bit further, try and find a laptop with a spec above the recommended system requirements.

As I know from experience when your shiny new laptop arrives, you may play the intended game for a few hours, in this case, Minecraft. A pop-up may appear enticing you to download a new game, or your friends have just started to play a different game, and you want to be part of the action.

Unfortunately, the game requires a little more power than what you currently have. Ok, you might get to download and play the game. But would you get the performance you need to enjoy a good gaming experience? Instead of lagging, behind. Excuse the pun!

Therefore, it is always worth having that bit more oomph in your laptop just in case, as you never know what is around the corner.

And for that reason, I have ensured each laptop listed above would be more than capable of handling Minecraft. And the HP Pavilion will also meet the minimum system requirements of other games like Fortnite. Games that are a bit more graphics-intensive than Minecraft.

How to check system requirements?

You can check the system requirements, by visiting the game developer’s website or visit a website such as the system requirements lab. This way, you can check before you decide on the laptop for your gaming.

And, you are not spending money on a laptop you will not need, money better spent elsewhere. Like a new gaming laptop accessory to help improve your gaming performance further.

What Is The Best Laptop To Play Minecraft On?

The best laptop to play Minecraft on would need to have hardware higher than the recommended system requirements of the Minecraft version you wish to play.

A gaming laptop with an Intel i5 or i7 processor, ideally a 10th or 11th gen would be great for playing Minecraft. Or, an AMD 3000 series mobile processor. Better still a Ryzen 4000.

As for the graphics card, an NVIDIA GTX 16 series mobile chip would be superb for playing Minecraft, even better, an NVIDIA 20 series chip. Again, not necessary. But if you are looking to play Minecraft Ray Tracing, your laptop needs to be running an RTX NVIDIA GPU.

Furthermore, I think the best laptop for playing Minecraft on, without going to the extreme of purchasing a gaming laptop with an RTX graphics card would be to have a processor higher than the Intel i5 5th generation.

Just like the HUAWEI MateBook D 15 above.

Whereas discrete graphics cards although would great, they are not totally required for playing Minecraft But, the best graphics card would be the one your budget allows.

On top of that, you must be running Windows 10 and have more than 4GB storage space on an SSD with 8GB RAM, even though 4 GB RAM is ok. Just as long as you don’t plan to play a more intense game.

And you don’t need to be paying thousands for a laptop to play Minecraft on, you can buy a reasonably priced gaming laptop with the graphics, RAM, storage and processing power to crush Minecraft.

Also, allowing you to play other games, like Fortnite, Wow, PUBG. The type of games that require that bit more power. You only need the extra power if you intend to play other games like those mentioned above.

If you plan to play other games, then I would say, yes you do. However, if Minecraft is the only game you play, and you may also play Roblox, then you won’t need the best ever laptop for Minecraft.

An affordable laptop would be best, and why I have recommended the five laptops above. They can all run Minecraft comfortably and give you a decent light gaming experience. And will also be superb for studying, light office tasks, and watching movies.

Can You Play Minecraft Java On A Laptop?

Yes, you can play Minecraft Java on a laptop, but not just any laptop will run the Java edition. Just like with any computer game you must have the required hardware.

Anything less, the game will not load and even if it does you will probably experience lag.

And with any game, game developers will always state the minimum system requirements and the recommended system requirements to enable the game to run smoothly.

A laptop with either the minimum or the recommended hardware will run Minecraft Java edition. Ideally, your laptop should have the recommended hardware or above. But, I know that’s not always possible.

Furthermore, most laptops above £400 would meet the Minecraft Java minimum system requirements. Although, there are a few laptops under £400 would also be ok, but not many.

When it comes to Minecraft, the system RAM (memory) and the CPU (processor) are most important. The same goes for any Minecraft mode outside of the Ray Tracing version and this is due to the way Minecraft is coded.

Finally, I have ensured that each laptop listed above will meet or exceed Minecraft Java minimum system requirements.

Although, the HP Pavilion light gaming laptop above will exceed the recommended system requirements.

Not only that, but would also be great for other games like Fortnite, Roblox, and Five Nights of Freddy’s. Popular games amongst the youth of today.

What Is The Cheapest Laptop That Can Run Minecraft?

The cheapest laptop that can run Minecraft will vary and depend on many things. Things like, a sale going on at the time you are looking to buy your laptop for Minecraft.

And there could be some great deals on refurbished laptops at the same time. That said, to give you a rough idea about the cheapest laptops for Minecraft. They should be in the region of about £300-£500.

As long as the laptop you are considering for playing Minecraft comes with the required hardware. At least 4 GB RAM and has a processor to meet the minimum system requirements then a cheap laptop would be fine.

The HP EliteBook above is a reasonably cheap laptop for playing Minecraft.

But before you decide on your laptop for Minecraft, ask yourself if you plan to play other games, if you answered yes.

Maybe the cheapest laptop that can run Minecraft is not the laptop for you.

Final Thoughts…

Since the release of Minecraft nearly ten years ago, the game has exploded with many different game modes. Currently, there are about 125 million monthly users, who set out on their Minecraft journey to collect resources, build villages, grow crops and build compounds with an end goal to defeat the Ender Dragon.

So much can be learned from playing Minecraft and the game has especially helped my young son, who sometimes struggles with everyday life. And, why I believe in the importance of having the right tools to play Minecraft, including the best budget laptops for Minecraft capable of running the game smoothly.

As I have explained above, you will not have to break the bank to buy a laptop with the best hardware to conquer a game such as Minecraft.

But a budget laptop to play Minecraft may not be powerful enough to play other more demanding games. Games that require a little more processing power, more storage, memory and graphics.

I would suggest browsing the best gaming laptop under £1000, these laptops would be capable of running most demanding on low to medium settings.

For this reason, I think you should consider a laptop above the recommended system requirements of Minecraft. However, if you are adamant Minecraft will be the only game you will play, stick with the recommended system requirements of Minecraft and all will be good.
