Factors Determining the Lifespan of Razer Laptops

There are a number of factors that can determine the lifespan of a Razer Blade laptop. One of the most significant factors is how well it is maintained.

If you do not clean your Razer laptop regularly and the fans and vents become clogged with dust and other debris, it can cause it to overheat. This can lead to poor performance or even permanent damage, therefore, a shortened lifespan.

Another significant factor in determining how long your Razer laptop lasts is how well you keep it cool. Razer designed its gaming laptops to run intensive applications smoothly. Games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Red Dead Redemption, or software like the Adobe suite.

If you use your laptop for extended periods without proper heat management, it can overheat. And this can cause irreparable damage to the core components such as the battery, graphics card, and processor.

Key Factors That Affect Longevity

  • Poor Maintenance
  • Overheating Issues
  • Not Updating Software
  • Poor Battery Health
  • Physical Damage

Another factor is whether the device becomes infected with a virus. If it has, then gaming laptops can experience problems. Such as damaged programs, corrupted files, and malware can even reformat your hard drives. And this can result in them being unusable.

Lastly, accidents can also happen, such as dropping or accidentally knocking your laptop when the laptop is in your bag. Unfortunately, this can reduce the lifespan of your Razer laptop down to zero.

The same could happen if you throw your laptop across the room in frustration. From a sudden urge of game rage, which happens often. If you cannot control your temper, your Razer laptop will not last at all.

Other things that affect how long Razer Laptops Last?

Razer designed its laptops to deliver the best gaming experience. After receiving my new Razer Blade 15. I can see why they’re a step up from other popular laptops like the Lenovo Legion or HP Omen ranges.

There are only a few laptop brands like the Dell Alienware range or the Apple MAC computers that can match their durability but not as much as their compact and lightweight design.

One thing that Razer does well is it doesn’t matter which option you choose. Whether that be the base model, or the Razer Blade Stealth laptop. You get the same all-aluminium premium build that is surprisingly lightweight and makes Razer laptops durable and sturdy.

Recently I got my hands on the advanced model, the Razer Blade 15 and it feels like nothing I have ever experienced before. And it packs some powerful internal components.

Including an Intel Core 12th Gen processor and a NVidia RTX 3070 TI graphics card. With it, I am able to play the latest AAA game titles like COD Warzone on high settings without a care in the world.

However, some Razer laptop users have experienced some major issues with their laptops. For example, the keyboard and palm rest feeling extremely hot underload. While others have reported the battery power being inadequate and some batteries have failed altogether.

So, with my brand new laptop from Razer in hand, let’s see why this is. This will help you if you are looking for a new gaming laptop and are unsure if the Razer Blade laptop is the right one.

How Long Do Razer Laptop Batteries Last?

Razer Blade laptop batteries can last about 4-5 hours on average. However, this may vary depending on the type of work you are doing and the settings of your Razer laptop.

For example, if you are running several programs at once or you’re running an intensive application. Or you have the screen brightness turned up high, then your battery will drain faster.

You also have to understand Razer gaming laptops have powerful hardware inside. They also have illuminated RGB-powered keyboards. So, a lot of power is needed from the battery.

However, I did some tests using battery power alone with the Razer Blade 15 to see how long it lasts. See the table below. Everything I wanted to do; the battery lasted long enough to get the job done.

Everyday Work, Emails, Browsing4:59
Video Playback @720p5:09
Sitting Idle, Zero Processors6:56
Adobe Photoshop Work4:05
Light Video Gaming5:29

The only thing I had issues with was when I attempted to run an intensive game on battery power alone. Unfortunately, the Razer Blade 15 was unable to handle the game, the FPS was poor, and I experienced stuttering. Therefore, the battery is not powerful enough for AAA gaming.

This should not be the reason not to choose a Razer Blade laptop. Other powerful gaming laptops are not that much better and have the same common issue when it comes to the battery life. However, Razer will not be the best option if battery power is more important to you.

What Shortens the Lifespan of a Razer Laptop Battery?

As mentioned before, some users have experienced issues with their Razer laptop batteries bulging. As of yet, this has not happened to me. However, most people do not realise laptop batteries are not supposed to exceed certain temperatures.

The battery temperature for the Razer Blade 15 is 65 degrees Celsius or 149 degrees Fahrenheit. (See image below). If your laptop battery exceeds this temperature, you are likely to experience issues with the battery. In some cases, they fail altogether.

Therefore, proper care is required. This includes effective heat management, ensuring your laptop runs at optimal temperatures to avoid these common issues so your Razer laptop lasts longer.

On the plus side, Razer now offers a 2-year battery warranty on all their gaming laptops. Which does mean, Razer has taken note of the issues users have faced over the last few years with previous models.

Do Razer Laptops Get Hot When Gaming?

Razer laptops do get quite hot when gaming. I can vouch for that. And if you continually run it at high temperatures. Without putting some heat reducing measures in place, it can drastically shorten its lifespan.

After using the new Razer Blade over the last few weeks. I can understand why some users have complained that the keyboard and palm rests feel extremely warm when underload.

You see, Razer use’s vapor chamber cooling technology. Vapor chamber cooling works by pushing heat away from the core components and out through the keyboard and palm rest.

And this in turn, makes the keyboard area feel much warmer. However, this cooling system is far more effective than traditional cooling methods that have copper and metal heat pipes.

Also, the fact, Razer Blade gaming laptops are made with CNC milled aluminium throughout which is in itself an excellent heat conductor that will soak up a lot of heat. Thus, making the chassis feel much warmer underload than other gaming laptops that are mostly plastic.

Does it Affect the Lifespan?

A Razer laptop that runs hot for hours of use can sometimes lead to permanent damage to the internal hardware and a shorter lifespan. The heat can cause the internal components to fail, resulting in a loss of functionality or worse, a complete breakdown.

All that said, you need to worry less about the chassis or the keyboard becoming hot. And more about what heat reduction measures you have in place to ensure the CPU and GPU are operating at optimal temperatures. Doing this will help extend the life of your Razer laptop.

Even more so, if you play the latest AAA games, where you shouldn’t be surprised if it gets a little too hot. And this is especially true when the graphics card and processor are running at their fullest potential.

When is it Time to Buy a New Razer Laptop?

There is no doubt the build quality of the latest Razer Blade gaming laptops. Their solid all-aluminium construction ensures a strong, and durable long-lasting laptop. The performance they offer is some of the most impressive you will ever come across.

However, a Razer laptop’s lifespan is not infinite, whether that be their newer models or last year’s model there will always come a time when you need a replacement even if you take good care of your laptop.

New technology emerges every year, making older hardware obsolete. Such as the graphics card. Older NVidia GTX series of GPUs are not able to deliver the new advancements in graphics technologies.

NVidia recently released Raytracing, and if you have an older Razer laptop with a NVidia GTX graphics card. You will not be able to experience this enhanced technology. Moreover, DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) is another graphics-related technology NVidia recently released.

Again, NVidia GTX graphics processing units cannot take advantage of this performance-enhancing feature. However, a general rule of thumb is to buy a brand-new Razer laptop when you start to experience major issues such as poor performance.

Or when your laptop starts to feel sluggish and heavy. Or when the battery life has noticeably decreased, and your laptop’s battery can no longer holds a charge for more than an hour.

You will also need to upgrade if you’re looking for the latest Blade with a higher-resolution display or more powerful hardware. So, you can enjoy better performance in newly released games.

Conclusion

There is no doubt Razer is a good laptop brand, and they have some of the most portable laptops that offer excellent performance in anything you do. The latest Razer gaming laptops are sleek, high-quality and fast gaming machines that can easily master your content creation.

Having said that, Razer laptops do not have the best battery life and they can also get hot when playing games. But as long as you put the right processes in place to keep them cool. And connect your laptop to an AC outlet when you decide to take on some heavy-duty games, they will be good for a few years.
