Tip #1: Take a Screenshot with the Print Screen Key

The most common method for taking screenshots will be different, depending on whether your MSI laptop is running on Windows 10 or 11, in terms of which buttons do what. So, I have covered MSI laptops running both operating systems when using the print screen button to capture the screen.

To take a screenshot on an MSI laptop running Windows 10. First, press the FN +Print Screen button to capture your computer screen and save the screenshot to the clipboard. You can then open the paint tool or paste the screenshot into another app by pressing CTRL + V.

If you want to save the screenshot to a folder. First, press the Windows Key and then the PrtScrn key to take a screenshot of your current screen and save the screenshot to the screenshot folder.

To take a screenshot with a Windows 11 MSI laptop. First, press the FN key + Print Screen to capture your current screen and save the screenshot to the clipboard. Then paste the screenshot into an application.

To save the screenshot to a folder in Windows Explorer. Press the FN key + Print Screen key. This method takes a screenshot of your current screen and then saves it to the screenshots folder.

The screenshot methods above will capture the active screen or screens. So, if you have multiple displays and want to take a screenshot of one selected window. The best method for Windows 11 users is to press FN + ALT + PRTSc buttons. For Windows 10 users, press the ALT + PRTSc buttons together.

Then, if you want to use the screenshot, open up Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft paint or another app of your choosing and then press Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot into the open application.


Tip #2: Take A Screenshot Using the Snipping Tool

You can also take a screenshot on a MSI laptop using the built-in Snipping Tool, and in many different ways. With this tool, you can take a screenshot of the entire screen or just a portion of the screen.

How to Use the Windows Snipping Tool?

An easy way how to take screenshots on MSI laptop is by using the snipping tool. Press the Windows key and type Snipping into the search bar. Then select the snip tool from the best match menu (shown above). You can also open the snip tool by pressing the Windows Key + Shift + S keys together.

Then choose which area on your screen needs capturing. Use Rectangular mode to capture a selected area of the screen. Freeform to capture any shape or size of the screen. Or full screen mode to take a screenshot of the entire window. Finally, use Windows mode to capture the selected screen.

You can also open the Microsoft snipping tool by pressing the Start Menu or Windows Key + Shift + S together. Then select New and choose from the same options I have listed above.

After taking the screenshot, you can either Crop the image. Annotate (to draw different shapes or text). Or Save As to save the screenshot as an image file. Finally, choose Send To to share the screen capture.

Tip #3: Take a Screenshot Using the Xbox Game Bar

One of the best ways to take a screenshot on a MSI laptop is with the built-in Xbox Game Bar. Great for capturing your entire screen. I also use this tool for screen recording on a Razer laptop and easily record hours of Call of Duty Warzone footage.

How to use the Xbox Game bar?

To open up the Xbox game bar application, press the Windows logo key + G together. Alternatively, you can press the Window key and type Xbox Game Bar in the search bar.

Then select the Camera Icon which is the screenshot button. Pressing this button will take a screenshot of the specific window and save the image to the captures folder inside Windows Explorer.

  • Open the game or programme you want to capture
  • Press Windows Key + G and then select the Camera Icon
  • The screenshots are saved to the captures folder
  • Use the capture in your favourite third-party applications
