A superb mid-range affordable gaming laptop

The Omen gaming laptop is equipped with an anti-glare micro-edge panel and has excellent viewing angles, also bright and accurate colours. The FHD IPS panel offers a 144 Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution for smooth, crisp gameplay. Although, gaming at 2440p ain’t too bad either.

Furthermore, the build quality is decent, with a solid aluminium frame surrounding the keyboard. Noticeably, the chassis is smooth and clean, with a tidy diamond Omen logo on the lid. Unlike some gaming laptops, there is nothing too over the top.

The keyboard itself is well-thought-out, but there is no number pad or fingerprint reader. There is, however, plenty of space allocated to rest your palms when typing and, the HP Omen has a highly responsive and well-positioned trackpad. And if you are a mouse and keyboard kind of gamer, without a doubt, you will benefit from utilizing the 26-key anti-ghosting technology that covers nearly half of the keys on the keyboard, therefore, giving you an advantage in the game. Finally, the keys are snappy and fast, and they have been a joy to click with a virtually invisible actuate distance.

What stands out when gaming on the HP Omen 15 was just how much I could do simultaneously, and a big thanks must go to the impressive power of the AMD Ryzen 4000 series CPU. Unbelievably, I was able to jump from app to app, read an email and edit an image, all at the same time as checking the system vitals using the Omen gaming hub software. Not to mention, Call of Duty Warzone running in the background.

HP Omen Ports and features

The HP Omen 15 with the Ryzen 7 and RTX 2060 is a fine specification for delivering smooth mainstream gaming to you on a plate. It is one of the decent mid-range Call of Duty Warzone laptops. The Omen is quick to start, unbelievably, even quicker to charge and has an excellent 144Hz display to make your portable gaming look crisp and clean. This laptop is also fantastic for graphic and video editing. Additionally, you can upgrade the RAM and the storage to increase performance further. Overall, the Omen 15 is a beast for the price and gets a 5-star from me.

Are you loving the HP Omen 15, But you need more storage? Maybe the HP Omen 15 with an Intel i7 10th Gen processor paired with an NVIDIA RTX 2060 6GB discrete GPU could be the storage laptop for you. This model has the 10th Gen Intel CPU and is more than a match for the Ryzen 7 HP Omen above on single core workloads.

But for gaming and other multi-tasking workloads it may be a little behind. That said, you will still smash COD Warzone or any other demanding game title with this laptop and you can enjoy the NVIDIA DLSS technology in-game.

2. DELL G5 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop

Price: from £1399 | Check Availability Amazon

The DELL G5 15.6 laptop would make a great call of Duty Warzone laptop

Specifications – Processor: Intel i7-10750H, MB: 5.0 GHz; Display size: 15.6in, 144 Hz refresh rate; RAM: 16GB DDR4; Display resolution: 1920 x 1080px; GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 MAX-Q 8 GB GDDR6; Storage: 512 GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD; Weight: 2.34kg; Operating System: Windows 10 Home;

The Dell G5 laptop range has been bouncing around the mid-range gaming laptop table for some time. And this model deserves a spot on the list of the best affordable Call of Duty Warzone laptops in early 2021.

The spec of this Dell machine is decent, there’s an Intel Core i7 10th Gen processor with six cores that runs at 2.6 GHz with a possible turbo peak at 5.0 GHz and 16 GB of dual-channel memory. Additionally, there’s an RTX 2070 with Max-Q Design which is something the other laptops above don’t have.

And this AI technology will give you an extra performance boost over the others.

Overall, this hardware combination should give you loads of power which equals higher frames. Although, as long as you get the best Warzone settings right then gaming should be easy.

Other than that, this model, the Dell G5, comes with a 144Hz FHD IPS 15.6-inch display which is the same as the HP Omen laptops above. All in all, you will enjoy smooth gameplay at 1080p, especially with this GPU.

Although, the performance would depend on the TGP (Thermal Design Power) setting and the cooling of the laptop. Hopefully, the dual-fan cooling system in this Dell machine will help spread the heat and keep your system responsive and cool during intense Warzone gameplay.

For the record, I have not read many complaints regarding heat issues, only that you would benefit from using a cooling pad. But, this is a gaming laptop so expect heat, and a little noise for that matter.

DELL G5 is one of the decent mid-range Call of Duty Warzone laptops

This model comes with an 10th Gen Intel i7 10750H, six core and extremely fast, formerly comet lake CPU. And together with the award-winning NVIDIA RTX 2070 Max-Q graphics card, you should have no problem playing any of the latest game titles full speed ahead.

Ands with 16 GB RAM already installed you should be good to go. But like with all gaming machines, you would have to get your hands dirty to help improve performance. And doubling the RAM to 32 GB at some point is possible.

On the design, the DELL G5 gaming laptops are-built with decent materials and the design of this laptop is sleek, and trendy, with a Supernova speckle dash finish and a fancy Dell logo on the lid. The laptop also features a dual-fan cooling system to help spread out heat and should keep your system responsive and cool during intense gameplay. You hope.

Just like with the Omen laptops above there is a full length grid on the base so this should help with cooling.

And like many gaming laptops at this price point, there should always be a plethora of ports. Highly important and especially for gaming, and this model does not disappoint.

The ports available will allow you to connect an external monitor to help enhance your experience further. With a superfast thunderbolt 3, USB, 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C with G-SYNC enabled and a DisplayPort™ 1.4, so you can watch 4K movies and play your games on a bigger screen if you wish.

This laptop also offers ultra-fast transfer speeds, along with, WiFi-6 which is the fastest available on portable devices. All in all you should enjoy gaming @1080p on high settings and maybe some 1440p gaming with a little teaking.

DELL G5 Ports and Features

  • USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C
  • 2 SuperSpeed USB 2.0
  • Killer Ethernet E2500V2
  • HDMI 2.0
  • Thunderbolt 3 Port
  • NVIDIA GeForce to record gameplay
  • Smart Byte technology for Streaming

DELL G5 Verdict

Dell gaming laptops come with all the bits and bobs you need to enjoy your gaming. There are a plethora of ports to help keep your devices happy, and the DELL G5 offers ways to improve both the RAM and the storage options. The battery power is ok, not the best, but, will give you three to four hours of gameplay. And the GPU and CPU is fast and powerful. Overall, the DELL G5 gets the thumbs up for being a decent gaming laptop, especially for the price.

3. Lenovo Legion 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop

Price: from £879 | Check Availability Amazon

Lenovo Legion 15-inch gaming laptop would be decent for playing Warzone

Specifications – Processor: Intel i5 10300H , MB: 4.5 GHz; Display size: 15in, 144 Hz Panel; RAM: 8GB DDR4; Display resolution: 1920 x 1080px; GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB GDDR6; Storage: 256GB SSD; Weight: 2.5kg; Operating System: Windows 10 Home;

The Lenovo Legion 5 is the 3rd gaming laptop on my list of the best affordable Call of Duty Warzone laptops paired with an Intel 10th Gen CPU. But this model pairs the Core i5 10th Gen processor with fours cores and eight threads, and clocks between 2.6Ghz and max peak around 4.5GHz.

Intel’s i5 10300H mobile processor can comfortably execute 8 threads simultaneously, thanks to the Hyper-threading technology, which delivers two processing threads per physical core. For you, that means you can do more quickly.

But it doesn’t have the Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0 you get with the other Intel laptops above. Although, very similar in terms of the integrated graphics power and memory spec.

The big question here, can the Intel i5 10300H CPU handle Warzone? And the answer to that question is YES! And the only thing I would suggest is to at some point add additional RAM. Ideally you want 16 GB for Warzone and with the CPU and GPU your KD will sky rocket.

  • 144Hz refresh rate, 300 nits, IPS Anti-glare screen

Why the Lenovo Legion 5 is a decent Budget Laptop

So, we know the 10th Gen CPU would be great for playing Call of Duty Warzone, but what about the other components. Ok, the RTX 2060 chip is not the latest or the fastest, but for this price point, it’s ok and for Warzone you would be landing in Verdansk in no time at all.

And for less than £1000 you will get the benefits of NVIDIA ray-tracing and DLSS which is the latest tech to land into Verdansk. Your frame rate limit should be close to 90 on medium settings @1080p where you gameplay will be smooth. But a little tweaking here and there you could possibly push out more.

Aesthetically, the Lenovo Legion doesn’t push the envelope and the ports are littered across the back of the chassis. How would that be a benefit? I am not sure. But I like the hinge design, as they are not flat against the edge and ensure the Legion looks like a gaming machine.

Other than that, the vents are big, stretching across the base and the sides allow for plenty of airflow, which is highly important for gaming. Mean while, the air vents are supported by dual-channel thermal mechanisms and Q Control 3.0, giving you complete control over your core temperatures and system settings.

Furthermore, the keyboard does have a number pad, and the keys are soft and much similar to the HP Omen. Although, the position of the power key is different, Its location is away from the keyboard layout so less chance of accidentally powering off. And the keys have a short actuate distance of 1.5mm, although, the arrow keys may be an obstacle I am sure you will get over. On the downside, there is no fingerprint reader for added security.

Lenovo Legion Ports and features

  • 1 USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C
  • 3 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
  • USB-C 3.1 (DisplayPort™)
  • Kensington lock slot
  • Mic / headphone combo
  • RJ45 ethernet / HDMI 2.0
  • Intel® Wi-Fi 6
  • Q Control 3.0 and Dual Burn
  • Legion Coldfront 3.0 Cooling System
  • FHD WVA 144Hz refresh rates
  • NO Fingerprint reader
  • NVIDIA GeForce Record Gameplay

Benefit from Lenovo Coldfront 3.0, dispatches heat away from your laptop

Lenovo Legion does have excellent cooling systems

The Lenovo Legion Verdict

Overall, the Lenovo Legion 5  is an affordable gaming machine to help master the Call of Duty Warzone game title. You have 8 GB RAM, but more can be added and will be needed if you want the best Warzone performance. Also, a fast 144Hz display to match any other gaming laptop at this price point.

Call of Duty Warzone Cold War Version

What is Call of Duty Warzone Cold War?

Call of Duty Warzone is a free to play Battle Royale, released some time in 2020. Warzone is cross-platform play, which means you can hook up with your friends on Xbox, PlayStation, or PC, including laptops, and join in and play in the same game.

There are three different games modes, they are Battle Royale, Plunder, and Rebirth Island which is by far my favourite game mode. Plunder and Battle Royale use the Verdansk map. And Rebirth is played out on Vozrozhdeniya island.

If you didn’t already know, Vozrozhdeniya island is the location of the “Rebirth Mission” made famous in Black Ops. And back in the Cold War, this was the location of Russias Bioweapons.

Exciting stuff.

Warzone Battle Royale Mode

When playing the Battle Royale mode, you can either be a solo soldier and decide to tackle 149 other hungry Warzone players. Alternatively, you can join up with other team members to fight it out in duos, trios, or squads and the last team alive wins. Simple.

But I will warn you now if you don’t already know. Solos and duos in Verdansk can be highly stressful and very sweaty, so you need to be on your toes at all times.

When you jump out of the plane for the first time, your goal is to land as soon as you possibly can. Then, grab your ground loot and get yourself as much money as possible so you can buy your way to victory.

Be stealth, quick, and aware of your surroundings at all times. You just never know where there might be a sniper or camper lying in wait. And, Warzone is a campers paradise. Believe me.

And all this needs to be done while the circle is closing in on you and your team.

Warzone Plunder Mode

In the Plunder mode, your goals are slightly different, and your main aim is to collect as much money as possible. And the first team to collect £1million are the winners.

Furthermore, the Plunder game mode is superb for helping to level up your weapons. And, for practising your aim, also getting used to the Verdansk map.

Other than that, you need to loot box’s just like you would playing Battle Royale, and you can also earn money quicker by completing contracts. i.e. recons and bounties, and also scavenging.

Warzone Rebirth Island

Rebirth Island came to Warzone when they released the Cold War version. And to be honest, Rebirth is my go-to game mode. Its fast, furious, highly frustrating, but extremely exciting.

Currently, Rebirth is with squads, but they have previously had trios and duos. Similar to Battle Royale, you jump out of the plane, loot, buy your loadout and hunt down the other teams to win.

Call of Duty Warzone Cold War

Call of Duty Cold War is a different game mode altogether and will cost upwards of £50 for the standard edition. And the ultimate edition will set you back around £80.

Cold War consists of three modes, Zombies, Multiplayer, and Campaign mode. Each game mode is different in more ways than one.

Firstly, the Zombie mode is great fun to play and will give you many hours of intense gaming. There is Multiplayer mode, and this mode is just as sweaty as playing solos in Verdansk, if not more sweaty.

Finally, there is the Campaign mode, and this is the story mode. The Campaign mode takes you back in time to the Cold War era. Back through the battle of the 1980s, featuring the KGB and visiting places across Europe, Asia, and Russia and battling along the way.

The big question here, is buying Call of Duty Cold War worth it?

From my experience on Xbox, Yes, it is.

However, when the Cold War version first come out, I did spend a few days playing the game and just to see what all the fuss was about. Since then, I haven’t really played that much and I can only put that down to how good, and enjoyable it is to play Call of Duty Warzone on my laptop.

System Requirements:Laptop for Gaming with Call of Duty Warzone

Every computer game title will have minimum and recommended system requirements to enable the game to run smoothly on your device. They are there to guide and give you every opportunity to enjoy the best gaming performance.

That said, I will always advise purchasing a gaming machine that will meet the recommended system requirements, if not above.

Especially important for a game such as Call of Duty Warzone. And, that is why I have ensured each gaming laptop listed above meets these requirements. If not above.

But, I know it’s not always possible to purchase a high spec gaming machine, as you may not have the budget. Or, there could be many other reasons why you cannot find a laptop to meet the Call of Duty Warzone recommended system requirements.

Therefore, a gaming laptop that meets the minimum system requirements or just above would still be ok for you to enjoy the game. Ok, you may not be busting out 150fps, but that’s ok.

Even though COD Warzone is highly competitive, fast, and furious, and you need to be on the ball at all times. But to win, you would still need your laptop to have a decent frame rate (60fps), and the higher, the better. In turn, this will give you every chance to be competitive.

A decent gaming laptop with a capable CPU, along with a discrete GPU, and paired with enough RAM and storage would still give you an enjoyable gaming experience. And if you get your game settings right, a Warzone win would be just around the corner.

What is the Minimum Laptop System Requirements for Call of Duty Warzone?

The minimum spec gaming laptop processor that will run Call of Duty Warzone is an Intel i5 8th Gen 4 core CPU. And from what I can see, it’s not easy to find a decent laptop paired with an 8th Gen processor. But, if you do, well done.

But remember, you also need a discrete GPU, and there aren’t many 8th Gen Intel machines paired with the required graphics card. With also 8 GB RAM.

Therefore, a gaming machine with an Intel i5 10th Gen processor would be a better option, and a 10th Gen machine would give you more chance to get nearer, or even above the minimum system requirements for the best gaming laptop for Call of Duty Warzone.

Or, if you prefer AMD, the earliest AMD CPU to run Call of Duty Warzone would be a Ryzen 3 3rd Gen processor. But, starting from the Ryzen 3 3250U. Again, you would struggle to find the complete machine.

Unfortunately, it is much easier to meet the minimum spec for a PC due to being a lot more powerful at the lower end of the spectrum. As an example, all that is required is an Intel i3 4th generation CPU, paired with a GTX 670 mobile graphics card.

But don’t worry, there is hope.

How to check your laptop specification for DirectX?

Requires DirectX 12 compatible system For COD Warzone

Apart from a decent processor and a discrete GPU, you also need 8 GB RAM, ideally, an SSD. And running on Windows 7, but Windows 10 would be much better.

In addition, your gaming machine needs to be DirectX 12 compatible. If you are not sure if your laptop is DirectX 12 compatible, read on as I will show you how to check.

What is DirectX 12?

DirectX is a collection of APIs, better known as application programming interfaces, linked to your operating system. DirectX 12 helps with handling tasks related to your games, multimedia and video.

And the latest version of DirectX 12 came about when Microsoft released Windows 10 back in 2014. DirectX 12 allows developers such as NVIDIA and AMD to add additional graphic effects more efficiently to your laptops and PCs and reduces driver overhead at the same time.

To run the Call of Duty Warzone game title smoothly it is a requirement for your gaming laptop to be DirectX-12 compatible. Unfortunately, if you have the wrong version of Microsofts DirectX the game you want to play may not run on your system how it should.

That said, checking your laptop for compatibility is straight forward, please follow the step below;

  1. Select START and search RUN, click ENTER
  2. In the run, box type dxdiag, then click enter
  3. The DirectX diagnostic tool sheet should appear
  4. Select the SYSTEM tab at the bottom of the list, and you should see your version of DirectX

If the latest version of Windows is already installed, then you should have the latest DirectX version.

But, if you are unsure, you can run Windows Update. However, if you are running an older version or a different version of Windows, you may have issues installing the latest version of DirectX.

So my advice would be to upgrade your system to the latest version of Windows 10 and all will be good.

My Recommended Minimum System Requirements: Call of Duty Warzone laptops

Below, I have compiled a list of three Call of Duty Warzone laptops that will meet the minimum system requirements. And each one has above the required minimum GPU, RAM and storage to run Warzone smoothly. But, don’t expect to be enjoying the frames per second that you would get with the other laptops listed above.

My Recommended System Requirements: Call of Duty Warzone Laptop

The best Call of Duty Warzone laptops will pair the latest graphics card with the fastest processors. In addition, they will come with more than enough RAM along with a super-fast M.2 NVMe SSD. And a quick and clean display with a high refresh rate.

But, not necessarily required, like I have said before, it would be nice!

What you do need is a gaming laptop to run at least 60fps, if not above. Below you will find the recommended system requirements to run Call of Duty Warzone on your portable device.

Mobile Processor Intel i5/i7 9/10/11th Gen – AMD Ryzen 7 4000 series or above
Graphics Card GTX10 series (Not GTX1050M), or GTX16 series – Radeon RX5000M series

Operating System Windows 10 64-Bit
DirectX 12

Recommended for Ray-Tracing in COD Warzone

Mobile Processor Intel i7 9/10/11th Gen – AMD Ryzen 7 4000 series or above
Graphics Card NVIDIA RTX 2060 or above
Storage SSD 512 GB or above
Operating System Windows 10 64-Bit
DirectX 12

Final Thoughts on the best laptops for gaming: Call of Duty Warzone

The gaming laptops listed above are some of the more affordable RTX based laptops around. Furthermore, they are decent in many more areas than the price, and they have enough graphics and processing ability for the latest mainstream games and especially Warzone.

My current machine is the HP Omen  above paired with the Ryzen 4800H and NVIDIA RTX 2060 graphics card. A superb laptop and especially for this price point, and can comfortably deliver 130 fps @1080p.

And now with the introduction of NVIDIA’s DLSS Ai technology into Warzone my performance levels have skyrocketed and my frame rate has improved further.

The Omen 15 also pairs the best mobile processor, although, only by a whisker. On testing, the Ryzen chip scored way above expectations on all benchmark tests, and I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised.

However, the 10th Gen Intel i7 10750H CPU paired with the other Omen laptop and the DELL G5  is not far behind.

Overall, the HP Omen pairs the best hardware combination. Including 16 GB RAM, and 16 GB RAM is highly-important for playing Warzone. Especially if you decide to enable Ray-Tracing.
