So, without further Ado, Lets dive in!

How to Choose the Best Gaming Laptops Under 800?

It can be difficult for some users to choose the best gaming laptops under 800. And especially with so many great budget laptops to choose from. The good news, I have searched all over the web and found not only the best laptops under $800 in USA. Also, some great budget gaming laptops in the UK.

8GB of RAM would be enough to run most games. It will also allow you to multitask while playing your games and help keep lag at bay. Another thing you can do is check if you can upgrade the RAM. Because having 16GB of RAM at your disposal would be so beneficial in some games. For example, 16GB RAM would be best playing Call of Duty Warzone on a laptop.

As for storage, the amount you need will depend on what else you will use your gaming laptop for. But, with the best $800 gaming laptop, you should expect a 512GB SSD. Yet, a 256GB SSD would also be acceptable and would make the laptop cheaper and would be enough for most users. Also, check if the laptop has M.2 slots this way, you can add a second SSD at some point. Did you know? Adding a second SSD is one of the best ways to improve the responsiveness of a laptop. If you are still unsure how much storage you need. We wrote an article giving our point of view on this topic, so give it a read.

Another important spec to consider when looking for the best 800$ gaming laptop is the processor. Possibly the most important choice you can make with the best gaming laptop under $800. The best options are either an Intel Core i5 or an AMD Ryzen 5. The best Intel processors for gaming laptops under $800 would be the Intel Core i5 10th or 11th generation. But an Intel Core i7 9th, 10th generation processor would be best but expect to pay a little more, more like a $1000 on a gaming laptop

If you’re stuck with your budget, the best Intel Core i5s include the 11th Gen i5-1135G7, Intel Core i5-11500H, and Intel Core i5-11400H. The best Intel 10th Generation processors are the Intel Core i5-10500H, Intel Core i5-10400H, and the Intel Core i5-10300H. They all have between 4 and 6 Cores and will run most games well.

For AMD based $800 gaming laptops, you should not consider anything less than an AMD Ryzen 5 4000 series CPU. They will offer decent gaming performance and come with good battery life. The best 800$ gaming laptops like the HP Omen with the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H or 4800U.

The best gaming laptops under $800 will have an AMD Ryzen 5 4600U or AMD Ryzen 5 4500U CPU. The newer and faster AMD Ryzen 5 5000 H series processors would be best. The 5000 series AMD processors run much faster than the 4000 series and would make solid all-around budget gaming laptop.

The final piece of jigsaw when choosing the best $800 gaming laptop is considering the graphics power. And like the CPU, the GPU is one of the most important specs to consider. For the cheapest gaming laptop, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 16 series graphics card would be best.

In this price range, you will also find some great budget options like the Acer Nitro 5 and the Dell G5. That come with the budget-friendly NVidia GeForce RTX 3050 GPU and would be worth considering.

Some of the best GPUs at the price point include the NVidia GeForce RTX 3050/Ti. While the best NVidia GeForce GTX graphics cards include NVidia GeForce GTX 1650, 1660, and GTX 1660 TI.

Lenovo has paired the CPU with a discrete Nvidia GTX 1650 4GB graphics card, 8GB RAM and a 512GB SSD. Upgrades? There isn’t much room to manoeuvre with a max RAM of 16GB. Although there is a bay for an HDD if you don’t mind squeaky spinning disks. The battery power is not the best, but it’s a gaming laptop. So, you should plug it in for gaming.

The Lenovo Ideapad is not the fastest gaming laptop under 800. Yet, it would suit someone new to video gameplay. And would make an ideal laptop for gamers who play games such as Minecraft, GTA, DOOM, and Roblox and a hatful of games on Steam. For high fidelity gaming, this gaming laptop may struggle. Unless you decide to tone down the settings.

Budget Laptop Buying Guide

Quick Buying Guide for the Best $800 Gaming Laptop

It doesn’t matter what budget you have, $1000, $2000, or even $3000 you will always need to consider the same components as the processor, graphics, and how much RAM and storage it has. There are some features that won’t matter at all when you’re looking to buy the best 800 dollar laptop.

You won’t need to consider if it has a thunderbolt 4 port? Or what refresh rate it has, you’re not going to get a display with a 240Hz or 300Hz? However, you might get one with 144Hz. There are others like what type of graphics card it has, does it have an Nvidia RTX 3080, 3070 or even an RTX 3060 graphics card?

These are the types of questions you would ask if your budget had four figures and you’re looking for the best gaming laptops under 1000 or even the best gaming laptops under $2000.

But there are some questions that you will need to answer, like the processing power? How much RAM and storage does the $800 gaming laptop come with? And, how good is the cooling? All important questions with a budget laptop under 800.

If you’re worried about cooling, check out these best cooling gaming laptops that run cooler than most others. In the next five gaming laptop buying tips I will go through and answer these questions. These tips will help buying a budget gaming laptop for $800 or less, somewhat easier.

1. Choosing The Processor

While it would be nice to crank up your laptop and enjoy the latest and greatest from Intel or AMD. But, with a budget under 800 it’s not possible. What is possible is a laptop processor with at least 4 CPU Cores, either an Intel i5 9th or 10th Gen mobile CPU. An Intel i5 10300H, or an Intel i5 9300H which are both decent in speed and gaming performance would be good. Although, if I had to choose, the former (10300H) would be best because it’s faster across the board.

There are also great budget laptops under $800 with processors that have 6 Cores. These will give you that bit more gaming performance. i.e. the AMD Ryzen 5 4600H, or the newer AMD Ryzen 5600H mobile processors would be good.

That’s not to say the 4600H CPU is not up to scratch, because it is. You can also find very good laptops with AMD Ryzen 3000 mobile processors. Like the AMD Ryzen 3 3550H and the 3500U, and you will pay a bit less.

2. Ensure You Have Enough RAM?

You can’t be a serious gamer without enough memory. The difference between having the right amount and too little is immense. Your system will suffer, and all those other programmes you have running on your computer need some as well!

For gaming, a good starting point would be 8GB of RAM. And the sweet spot would be 16GB but not all games need as much. Most games recommend to have at least 8GB. This is why I’ll always recommend you look at the games you intend to play. Look also at what else you plan to do with the laptop besides gaming.

Another important factor to ensure, can you upgrade the RAM at a later date, because there are some budget laptops under 800 that will only allow 16 GB RAM in total. Or worse, some budget laptops you cannot upgrade the RAM at all.

This means you could be stuck with as little as 4 GB RAM, which is not enough to enjoy a good gaming experience. So make sure two things, first you can add more RAM. Second, think about what else you’ll be doing, while your gaming.

3. Get the Best Graphics Card?

Having the best graphics card in town is the holy grail for every gaming enthusiast. So much so there was a worldwide shortage as manufacturers failed to keep up with demand. However, mobile GPUs have become more affordable. You can now pick up a gaming laptop with a GeForce Nvidia RTX 30 series laptop for less than $1000.

This means laptops with Nvidia GTX 16 and RTX 20 series graphics cards have landed in the budget-friendly laptop space. Now, it’s possible to enjoy a ray-tracing gaming experience for under $1000.

But what about the best gaming laptop under 800? They should have at least an Nvidia GTX 1650, 1660, or 1660-Ti mobile GPU. For the record, the latter is more powerful than the GTX 1660 as it has a higher TGP (total graphics power). There are also decent budget machines with the older GTX10 series GPUs, which are still ok for casual gaming.

You may also come across many budget laptops featuring integrated graphics. And these laptops are ok for games such as Minecraft, Roblox, and Skyrim. But they are not the best for more mainstream gaming.

If these are the games you want to play, you can save a pretty penny and invest in a laptop with integrated graphics. It’s worth noting, unlike a gaming PC, laptops are not as flexible when it comes to upgrading, especially the graphics card. So, once you make your decision and buy your budget gaming laptop under 800, there is no going back.

Games With Integrated Graphics

  • They would make a good laptop to play Minecraft on
  • Integrated graphics are perfect for Roblox
  • You won’t need to spend more than 500 to play Skyrim
  • The same for games like, Hearthstone, Counter Strike, PUBG Lite

4. Budget Laptop Display and Resolution?

The best gaming laptops under 800 will have a screen resolution of 1920×1080, which is great, for today’s games. And still, the most popular screen resolution used by mobile gamers. The previous go to res for laptops was the 1366×768 resolution which is not as common on newer gaming machines.

Ok, 1440p or 4K resolutions will make your games look much better, but it will also bump up the price of the laptop. Besides, a screen res of 1080p is fine and an FHD (full high definition) over an HD would be best. This would give you much higher FPS and still offer decent quality images.

As for the refresh rate, a budget laptop with a 120Hz display would be good. But, some budget laptops that are knocking about offer 144Hz IPS panels and they would be best.

As for laptop size, most laptops at this price point will have a 15.6-inch form factor. This is a good size for portability, and won’t be too heavy to carry about. Some would recommend 17 inches for gaming but my laptop is 15.6-s and it works well for me.

The best screen size will depend on how you plan to use the laptop. If you are travelling a lot, a smaller laptop would be best, a 15.6 or 14-inch laptop. Whereas, if your laptop stays at home a 17-inch laptop would suit but would be a little pricier.

The perfect budget gaming laptop under 800 would have a 15.6-inch display. With a 120Hz/144Hz refresh rate with a screen res of 1080p. This spec would offer the best immersive gaming experience. Plus, your images would look crisp and smooth.

5. Find the Best Storage Solutions?

The amount of storage options a laptop comes with is key to my decision making process. If I can add more storage at some point I am not too fussed how much storage the laptop lands with.

The best gaming laptop under 800 would come with an M.2 SSD drive to use as the main storage. Plus, a spare M.2 slot to add a second SSD. If the laptop comes with a 512GB SSD, that’s perfect especially for a budget laptop under 800.

What I tend to do, and what I recommend is find a budget laptop with 2 SSD slots. Use the stock SSD for booting the system and storing your main games and programmes. Then, buy a 2nd SSD to use as your secondary storage, and store games you don’t play as often, or photo’s, and videos.

This way your system boots up without fuss. So when you save gameplay, or move files from one place to another. Anything that involves transferring data. It’s all done in no time at all.

What Games Can You Play on Budget Gaming Laptops?

best-gaming-laptop-under 800

With the best gaming laptops under 800 you can run most games, such as Fortnite, PUBG, World of Warcraft. With some laptops you can even run Call of Duty Warzone. Do not expect to reach 100+ frames per second. But you should comfortably get 60-80 fps.

We have considered this when choosing the five cheapest gaming laptops listed above, they will run most games on medium to high settings. On medium, you should expect to get around 60-70 fps, on high around 30-50 fps. But if you want to play first-person shooter like COD Warzone on your laptop. It is best to have 16GB RAM, because it is only just playable with 8 GB.

However, for single-player games like Doom, Zelda, The Last of Us, these sorts of games, a budget laptop would be just fine. You can also enjoy many hours of gaming fun on game engine platforms, such as Steam and Stadia with a budget gaming laptop.

It’s also worth noting that the cooling of the laptop, will play a big part in its performance. And, Acer has a reputation for having superb cooling in their budget gaming laptop ranges. I’m not saying the Acer model is the one you should go with. But if you look at the results in the table below, it shows how good Acer laptops are.

Although, the model tested has a different spec than the Acer laptop above. But these results highlight just how good the cooling is in their gaming laptops compared to some of the other budget gaming laptops on the market right now!
