How Good Of A Laptop Do I Need For Sims 4?

Gamers looking for a cheap gaming laptop to play Sims 4 on should consider a number of factors. One of the most critical factors in choosing a gaming laptop is the graphics card. But for a laptop to run Sims 4 smoothly, a dedicated GPU is not strictly required

Because Sims 4 will run just fine on a laptop with an integrated graphics solution and this will also meet the minimum system requirements. This means the graphics share the same chip as the CPU, which equals less heat, and lower overall cost. However, the graphics power is limited so the games you can play will also be limited.

However, it is not all bad news, we included the Acer Swift 3 laptop in our list because it features the latest Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics. This laptop is powerful enough to run Sims 4 smoothly and many other games due to the advancements in iGPU technology. Now capable of playing your favorite games at 1080p resolution with relatively decent frame rates.

If you prefer a dedicated graphics card, we recommend an NVidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1650 or the GTX 1660 graphics card. Either one of the chips would meet the minimum and recommended system for running Sims 4. We also recommend the NVidia RTX 3050 GPU as a viable alternative. This will bring AI features such as Ray Tracing. Something the NVidia GTX cards do not offer. That said, any one of the GPUs above will definitely exceed the requirements and make excellent cheap laptops to play Sims 4 on.

Table: Sims 4 Laptop Requirements: MINIMUM

ComponentRequirements
Operating system:Windows 8, Windows 8.1
Processor:1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, AMD Athlon 64 4000
Memory (RAM):At least 4 GB RAM
Hard drive (free space):15 GB of free HD space with at least 1 GB
Graphics card (video):NVidia GeForce 660 or better
DirectX version:DirectX 9.0,10 and 11 Compatible

Table: Sims 4 Laptop Requirements: RECOMENDED

ComponentRequirements
Operating system:Windows 8, 10
Processor:Intel Core i5, AMD Ryzen 5 or faster
Memory (RAM):At least 4 GB RAM (8GB would be best)
Hard drive (free space):18 GB of free space. (SSD would be best)
Graphics card (video):NVIDIA GTX 650 or better
DirectX version:DirectX 9.0c Compatible

As you can see from the tables above the minimum and recommended system requirements for running Sims 4 is nothing to get too worried about and the laptop you need would be quite cheap compared to the requirements for some games. Continue reading to learn more about what you should consider.

Best Processor For Sims

The processor ensures your laptop runs fast, and the more power your CPU has, the more tasks you can do. Or programs you can have running simultaneously. For a laptop to play Sims 4 the minimum requirement is an Intel Core i3 processor with at least 2 Cores. But for most newer games, a dual-core processor is not enough.

Therefore, we do not recommend anything less than an 8th generation Intel Core i5 processor with at least 4 Cores. For an AMD processor, we don’t recommend you choose anything lower than an AMD Ryzen 5 3000 series. Again with at least 4 Cores and a 2.0GHz base clock speed.

The more cores the processor has, the less likely you will experience any stutter or slow down in performance. This is when you decide to open a program or application while Sims 4 is running. You must also think about what else you plan to do with your laptop. If you are likely to use it for work or school projects, a CPU with 2 cores may not stand up to most tasks. And why we always recommend at least a quad-core CPU, for playing most games, and for most tasks.

RAM Requirements

Similar to the CPU, the amount of RAM your laptop has will determine whether you experience any lag or a slowdown in performance when playing games. The minimum amount of RAM for Sims 4 is 4GB and this would ensure you have a decent and cheap laptop to play Sims 4 on.

However, we recommend having at least 8GB of RAM installed. This is because not only can you play Sims 4 on a laptop without any problems and all expansion packs. You can also record your gameplay and have several browser tabs open. Plus, many other things, all with no issues.

The good news is that most suitable gaming laptops that run Sims 4 will have at least 8GB of RAM installed. And most can be upgraded with more memory if you need it. But some laptops will only have 4GB of RAM. So again, think about your workflow and what else you use it for. If you can afford it, get one with 8GB of RAM.

Storage Space

Sims 4 does not need a huge amount of storage space. Unlike some other games, such as Call of Duty Warzone (which requires 200GBs of storage). Even if you downloaded all Sims 4 expansion packs, a 256GB SSD or HDD would suffice. The good news is that most cheap laptops for Sims 4 will have at least 128GB or 256GB SSD storage installed.

Again, like most things when deciding which laptop is best your games. You also need to consider what else you do on the laptop. But for most people, 256GB of storage is more than sufficient. With a 256GB SSD installed, you can save hundreds of photos, if not thousands. In addition, you can have many files, have many folders, and programs installed.

At least 256GB of storage is what we recommend, but the best option would be 512GB of storage. This amount would be enough storage for most gamers who may use their laptops for other things besides playing Sims 4. It is also a good idea to check if it has M.2 slots, because this will mean you can add a 2nd Solid State Drive in the future.

Interesting Fact: If you didn’t know, adding a new or 2nd SSD is possibly one of the most effective ways to improve a laptop’s responsiveness and boost its performance.

The Price Range

For most gamers the budget will be the main factor when choosing the best device to play Sims 4. However, some may prefer to spend more money on a more powerful graphics card to play more advanced games like COD Warzone or GTA 5. While others may be willing to sacrifice on graphics for the ability to play on a more portable machine.

That said, a decent cheap laptop for Sims 4 will cost between $400-$600. Spending more, like $800 will get you a superb budget gaming laptop that can also run other more advanced games. Simply, because you will get a dedicated GPU, a powerful CPU, and 8GB of RAM. Some may even have 16GB of RAM installed. Either way, the more money you are willing to spend, the more gaming power you have at your fingertips.

Moreover, there are many other things to consider when looking to buy the best laptop to play Sims 4. The battery life, weight, and size of the gaming laptop are all critical factors. You may also want to consider the display. I mean. Do you go for Full HD? Or would you prefer Quad HD? A higher refresh rate may also appeal more to your needs. There is a notable difference between 120Hz, 144Hz, and 240Hz in terms of how your games look and frames per second.

Now that we have gone over what to consider when choosing the most suitable laptops that run Sims 4, it’s time to check out our top eight picks.

4. Best Acer Swift X Laptop for Sims 4 (Thin & Light)

Acer Swift 3 14-inch laptop for Sims 4

Here we have the Acer Swift X, which earns our vote for being one of the most suitable 14-inch laptops to play Sims 4. This sleek, stylish yet simple, budget gaming laptop comes with great specs at an affordable price. There is no fancy OLED display like you get with the 15-inch ASUS below.

You will get the fast processing power of an AMD Ryzen 7 5000 series CPU that offers efficient single-threaded performance. The AMD Ryzen 7 mobile CPU comes with 8-cores and 16-threads so multitasking will not be a problem. And you will also get the graphics power of an NVidia GeForce RTX 3050 dedicated GPU that comes with 4GB VRAM, which is minimal, I know. But will deliver smooth graphics at lower resolutions.

The Acer Swift X display also impresses, it has a 14-inch Full HD 1080p display with 300 nits of brightness and 100% of sRGB so will give your games a colourful and vibrant look. However, the RAM is limited to 16GB, which would be more than enough RAM for most users. Besides, this will not be a viable laptop for streaming due to its 14-inch size so if you don’t plan on streaming anytime soon, you should never need more than that.

As for storage, you get a 512GB NVMe SSD which will give you plenty of storage space for everything from your latest Sims 4 creations. And save and share ideas for your next school projects. Hundreds of family photos, videos, and loads of your games, with some leftover in case you get too lazy to clear out the junk.
